OK so the 330Mb confusion is cleared up , FTTPod and WBC FTTP are not the same thing , FTTPod is ‘on demand’ , the customer ordering this Openreach product pay for all the network construction , this is often in the 10’s of thousands of ££’s and BT are not an ISP that offer it anyway, this would have been clear from your earlier post if you had shown the checker results rather than your edited version of it .

From this additional information, it’s seems property on the opposite side of the road to you can currently get WBC FTTP , your side apparently cannot , but anyone with deep enough pockets can enquire, via a participating ISP , how much FTTPod will cost , including you .

Housing built in the 1960’s through to the early 1990’s , were predominantly provided with service using ‘DIG’ , the copper pair ‘phone’ cable into each property was armoured and buried Directly In the Ground , in these areas there often is some ‘BT’ infrastructure ( BT because it was many years ago back ) on one side of the road only , ( full size jointboxes , duct ) , but the opposite side has none , the armoured cables for that side originating in the jointboxes on the side with infrastructure and running directly under the road , so when it comes to FTTP upgrades , one side of the road is much more expensive than the other to provide it with FTTP , as ducted road crossings and new jointboxes need to be constructed on the side with no existing infrastructure, the side with existing full size infrastructure can use that existing infrastructure for FTTP as well as the existing copper service .

Often there are small joint boxes ( JB21,JB22 and JB23 ) on both sides of the road but they are way too small to be of any use with FTTP , and don’t have ducts into them , so may as well not be there , it’s the full size JUF4 etc type boxes that are any use for FTTP .

Openreach not BT (BT have no involvement in this type of decision making ) have the same financial constraints as every other network builder , so if one side will for example cost £100 per house to make them FTTP ready , and the opposite side will , because of the extra construction costs for road crossings, new duct and boxes , will be £400 per house (those houses sharing the extra infrastructure construction costs ) then one side of the road can be done as it’s within budget and the other side left until finances allow .

I stayed with BT as they said they would upgrade to full fibre to premises "Soon".
All that happened is my bill go's up each year for the last 4 years. I did work from home but am now retired.
Seems a bit of a P*** Take to me.

EX IT manager for gov dept/programming brackground so no daft answers please 🙂

Though the service is reliable everytime I put in a search to see when I will get an upgrade at my postcode I don't get any sort of date.

Is it just a con to stop people moving to other providers, it's beginning to seem like it to me.
Opinions please...

BT retail just like SKY, TT have no control over when or where fibre will be installed as that is down to openreach. unless there is Virgin or an Altnet available to you then moving to another provider that uses openreach will not get you fibre any sooner

check https://www.openreach.com/fibre-checker

Every time I try that I get not yet available (tried several times), but everytime BT contact me they say its imminent.
Yes I am aware that openreach is now separate from BT and has been for several years). So are BT users penalised deliberately for some reason then as there are other providers in the area offering full fibre.

BTW do you not think it unreasonable for a company to offer something and then not provide but stil charge the same price for a product. I certainly do.

any other providers in your area offering FTTP are not using the openreach network but as I said either virgin or other altnets with there own equipment. however if you know of another provider using openreach FTTP then please post

I cannot follow your logic ,’do you not think it unreasonable for a company to offer something and then not provide but stil charge the same price for a product’

BT charge for the speed of the service, this is the product , irrespective of the medium it’s provided over , so if you were on Fibre Essential 40Mb , the price is the same regardless of FTTP or FTTC, obviously some on long lines may not get 40Mb on FTTC , whereas they would on FTTP , but that’s a consequence of the technology, some one close enough to the FTTC cab ( and that’s the majority) will get the full 40Mb if that’s the profile they purchase, someone on FTTP has the option of faster profiles , but they cost more .

OR are rolling out FTTP at a pace greater than any Alt Net , but obviously they cannot provide everywhere simultaneously.

My problem is that they have entered in to an agreement to provide it which is why I am on the package I am on but I think waiting 3 years is excessive don't you? Especially when they keep offering me a package upgrade which is the one I am on already and supposed to be full fibre.

Openreach and BTs contractual arrangements are not really the issue.

I see openreach vans everyday in my area. At one point 6 months back I saw some other contractors (not openreach ) and as they had the pavement up outside my door I enquired causally what they were doing. They said we are putting in fibre optic cabling for your area.

Well obviously not for BT customers I guess.

you are paying for a service which you are getting as per your agreed contract. If you are no longer in fixed term contract with BT then just leave and move to ISP who will provide you with FTTP - but will not be openreach

The full fibre promise only states " as soon as it's available in your area". There is no mention of when.

It is available in my area. Our cabinet delivers FTTP to houses near me, the closest being less than 10 metres. BT Openreach say I'll have it in July 2025. The website says by December 2026. For the last 3 years they've continually changed the goalposts. There are BT pits in the footpath so the infrastructure appears in place to be able to complete the work.
