If not yet moved to DV then you will be in the near future and if you still want to retain your phone after move then you must have the SH2 as first connection to the internet. There are ways to connect a 3rd party router but it must be first

Hello

bt smart hub2 user

It's been amazing for 3 years pretty much, now all of a sudden the last month it's stopping (dropping out) all the time, 10 times in the last hr before starting up again

Tried everything, had 2 useless BT engineers out. Eternity cable plugged into the laptop was no better, same dropping away

If I buy a new router (netgear etc) will it connect to my BT smart hub2 extender disc?

Read lots about this happening to people and buying a new router is about the best advice I've seen

Cheers in advance x

"If I buy a new router (netgear etc) will it connect to my BT smart hub2 extender disc?"

That depends on how your extender disc is connected to the router. If it's by ethernet cable then yes, probably. If it's connected wirelessly by DECT then no, because only BT routers can use DECT to connect to BT extender discs.
If you raise this issue with BT as a fault, they'll probably send you a new SH2 as their first move to deal with the fault, so you could try that first.

If your ethernet connection is also dropping internet connection is hub changing colour from blue to red?

Have you tried a factory reset of the hub by pressing the recessed button back and holding 20/30 secs until lights flash on hub and see if that helps your internet connection

Do you have a home phone service from BT ? is it digital voice?
