Thanks for that, but when you say I will eventually have to move to FTTP, do you have any idea of a time scale on that?

I’ve just read that my exchange is in the latest tranche for “FTTP Priority Exchange Stop Sell”, (tranche 21).

I’m still on FTTC at the moment but I do have FTTP available here. Does anyone know the implications of this with respect to a compulsory migration to FTTP in the immediate future? And if so, when this is likely to happen?

Thanks.

It will only happen when you come to renew your contract. You will not be able to renew the FTTC contract. It will have to be to a FTTP fixed term contract.

You may be able to just leave it on FTTC with no fixed term contract and lose any discount you may have but you will eventually have to move.

There is no published timescale, for most when switching providers or negotiating a new deal with their existing provider, FTTP will be compulsory at that point , ( for the switchers as part of joining that ISP and will be a condition of any contract renewal with the existing provider ) so the only way to remain as you are in the short term when the current minimum term expires is to continue, probably paying more than necessary , on an ‘out of contract’ basis ……as far as how long this will be for , it’s probably a few years before ultimatums are given , FTTP or lose service

I would imagine that the financial penalty will be incentive enough for most to take FTTP

That’s what I thought.

The problem is that the cheeky so-and-so’s are offering me the same OTT price as for FTTC and if I move to Sky, they want to fit CityFibre. I was hoping this might force the change and as a move initiated from BT’s side it would not involve a new contract. (I have my reasons for why I don’t want to lock-in for another two years).
