when are BT due to replace existing Smart Hubs with wiFi7 versions ?

No date given but you could buy an EE wifi 7 router on ebay and use that. It is plug and play on BT Broadband.

They're not.

The BT Smart 2 was released in 2019

In that time EE (sister company) have released wifi 6 and then 7.

BT were going to kill off BT domestic broadband and just have EE as the top tier and Plusnet as the budget option.

BT tv went the same way becoming EEtv

They decided against as it confused the older demographic

Since then BT broadband has been stagnant.

I did the above as on my BT 500mbps I rarely got past 200mbps over wifi.

Bought EE wifi 6 router for £20 and now regularly get my 500mbps over wifi.

Who uses the ISP supplied router as their main WAP anyway?

The location of the router and the best position for the wirelss access point are rarely the same. The only reason ISPs release these almost useless combo boxes is because it saves them money. In industry routers, switches and wireless access points are separate devices. (For a reason).

Oh, and I wouldn't assume it "confused the older demographic". More likely we've been around long enough to know better than be bulldozed into something a company wants rather than stick with we want. You young'uns want to follow the herd, you get on with it. Just leave us out of it!

BT CEO Alison Kirkby announced in march 25 that the migration from BT to EE has been abandoned

She quoted

"it was confusing our older customers "

as the main reason.

I’ve checked out the Wiki page on the CEO and if the age quoted for her is correct, I wonder what age she considers as “older customers” 😂

Excuse me while this very young man born in the 1960’s gets back to my internet banking and non ISP router 👍🏻

I was going to wade in and defend isp router's

But being a BT broadband customer who ditched the woeful not so smart hub 2 perhaps I better not.

To be fair, as the EE router keeps getting plugged on this forum, may as well just migrate this forum with the EE forum and be one happy family, though I suspect the EE lot would be sick to the back teeth of reading thread after thread about spam emails 😆

@Kodikid They’re cheap and cheerful, good value for money. They’re compact convenient and easy for the untrained public to set up. They do a bit of everything and, by and large, get the job done. What isn’t there to like?

Of course, if you’re a retired pro and have worked in the industry, they’re limited to the point of being ****.

Plus the fact it’s a slow night and I feel like **** having had flu, chicken pox and pneumonia jabs yesterday, so I thought I’d wind you up.

@Kimberlin I’ve also posted on the EE forum, (under a different name). Believe me, stick with what you’ve got.

@WSH Oh trust me, I’ve absolutely no intention of ever using an ISP router ever again. I do however fully agree that ISP routers are for the vast majority of customers, completely adequate.

As far as you having all those jabs, you’re just showing off! I’ve had my flu jab and I feel great 👍 I hope you feel better tomorrow!

I think the health centre ambushed me. I was only supposed to be there for the flu one.

I'm glad you feel fine. The flu one always does make me feel rough for 24 hours.

As an older person could someone please explain this seemingly obsessive need to have zillions of Mbps to what are mobile WiFi devices. Appreciate it looks rubbish having a 900Mbps fibre connection but only seeing 200 on your WiFi device. But what the devil are you doing with it? Aren’t data hungry devices like CAD/CAM systems, Cloud based video editing stuff , NASs typically desktop and Cat5e or whatever hardwired? Apart from running speed tests where is the need?

Personal choice

In the everyday world no one needs more then 150mbps

Likewise no one needs a car that's capable of doing 100mph.

You pays your money .....
