Attempting to get to the microsoft support site comes back with an "unable to connect" page (generated locally) suggesting a DNS problem.

I've tried flushing using ipconfig and restarted the PC - same problem.

Most of BT seems to be down so wouldn’t surprise me.

I can confirm that the “My BT” app is down. Also on down detector there’s over a thousand reports in the last hour (baseline is 25)

I get that too.

Infuriatingly most of us have done away with our landlines which leaves us no way of checking the service status anyway as it requires a landline number.

Honestly I wonder if any of their staff have ever tried to use their systems

You're probably not missing anything.

They never say they have a problem especially when they do.

It's only by asking other customers (like here) that you find out it's not a local problem with your own PC or phone.

There is no understanding of (or care for) customers - no idea why. Perhaps it costs too much to care.

🔍 Current Status:
• BT DNS problems are being flagged by users across the UK, including in areas like London, Manchester, and Birmingham.
• The spike in reports suggests intermittent connectivity issues, likely linked to DNS servers not resolving domains properly.
• Some users are unable to access websites unless they switch to alternative DNS providers like Google DNS (8.8.8.8) or Cloudflare (1.1.1.1).

🛠️ What You Can Do:
• Change your DNS settings manually to a public DNS provider. This often bypasses the issue:
• Google DNS: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
• Cloudflare DNS: 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1

• Flush your DNS cache:
• On Windows: Open Command Prompt and type ipconfig/flushdns

When can I expect a paycheque from the Customer Service Department?

BT DNS is still unavailable

This issue began yesterday afternoon and continues this morning. BT's DNS isn't reachable and since there is no way to modify the DNS address on the SH2 it has to be done individually on each device to something that works (eg 8.8.8.8). This includes PC, mobile phone, SkyQ, Alexa etc. Restarting the SH2 this morning does not make any difference (no reason why it should since the problem is within BT's infrastructure not mine).

There is no acknowledgment of the problem on BT's service status page (as usual) yet it continues (for about 16 hours so far). I wonder if anyone else knows any more about this issue.

Tracing route to 81.139.56.100 over a maximum of 30 hops

1 2 ms 1 ms 2 ms BTHUB6DX [192.168.1.254]
2 5 ms 5 ms 5 ms 172.16.17.240
3 * * * Request timed out.
4 119 ms 18 ms * 62.172.102.224
5 7 ms 6 ms 6 ms 62.172.102.155
6 * * * Request timed out.
7 * * * Request timed out.
8 * * * Request timed out.
9 * * * Request timed out.
10 * * * Request timed out.
11 * * * Request timed out.
12 * * * Request timed out.
13 * * * Request timed out.
14 * * * Request timed out.
15 * * * Request timed out.
16 * * * Request timed out.
17 * * * Request timed out.
18 * * * Request timed out.
19 * * * Request timed out.
20 * * * Request timed out.
21 * * * Request timed out.
22 * * * Request timed out.
23 * * * Request timed out.
24 * * * Request timed out.
25 * * * Request timed out.
26 * * * Request timed out.
27 * * * Request timed out.
28 * * * Request timed out.
29 * * * Request timed out.
30 * * * Request timed out.

Trace complete.

Eventually managed to talk to someone at BT.

After asking me to clear my browser cache and disable the Windows 11 firewall (neither of which would have resolved a problem further down the IP stack, they told me to do a pinhole reset of the hub.

That seems to have sorted the problem.
