Engineer attended to connect new cable to old hub.Realised he could not and phoned for help, only to be told they would send a new hub.He told me i would stay on the old broadband until new hub came. After he left, internet went off. After a long call to BT,they told me that they had already switched me to the new broadband and couldnt temporarily switch me back!Left without any internet for days now until new hub arrives. My Hive,Alexa,Ring, etc all disconnected.Shocking service.

By hub, I take it you mean the Smart Hub 2?

Might be quicker to pick one up off Amazon and a spare is always useful if you are going to be on digital voice. They're cheap enough these days. (Just make sure it is the FTTP version if that is what you are moving to).

Communication between Openreach and BT is abysmally bad.
There have been quite few reports on this forum of BT just turning off a FTTC broadband service on the day Openreach is due to install FTTP, without checking that Openreach have successfully completed the installation. When Openreach have failed to do so, you get the situation that the OP is in.

There are 2 versions. There was originally an FTTP version with a Red WAN port and 3 LAN ports and an FTTC version with 4 LAN ports. Subsequently a firmware update gave the FTTC version the ability to select port 4 as a WAN port or LAN port.

Ah, that explains it then.

It may still be possible to pick up one with the old firmware. The one I got was initially way out of date until I let it update.

"It is not Openreach that have failed, it is BT in not sending a Smart Hub2."
That's certainly true in this case, but I was making the general point about BT switching off a VDSL or ADSL service before Openreach had confirmed with them that the FTTP service was up and running. This could be due to BT not bothering to check with Openreach, or Openreach declaring the job finished when it isn't. Either way, it's down to poor communication between BT and Openreach, as I said.

What BT hub were you using before the switch over. Unless I am mistaken the "newer" Homehub 5 has a WAN port (red colour) for FTTP and as has been pointed out the Smarthub has Port 4 as a WAN port if you switch it on in the hubs settings if it has not already been turned on.

BT-Home-Hub-5-Self-Install-Guide.pdf

4043 BT Smart Hub-A SI FTTP User Guide 084318 v2 1.pdf

Yes, I can confirm that. (I've still got a couple of Home Hub 5's. The amount of junk I've got. I really must have clear out). Both the type A and type B have WAN ports.
