New installation of Full Fibre in Flats but speed capped at 100Mbps

I live in a complex with 5 blocks of 6 flats.

BT have just installed full fibre into my block, but none of the others.

When I use the BT Fibre Checker it says I can get 1600 Mbps.

I tried to sign up but was told the service is capped at 100Mbps (I am on copper at the moment and get around 80Mbps).

Is there any reason why it is capped? Other ISPs are showing the same speed being available.

Is this because the other blocks are being connected and the speed will increase once this is finished?

Is FTTP showing as being available on this link. Use the address checker if you do not have a phone.

Are you sure it is capped at 100Mbps and not 1000Mbps?

Yep absolutely certain. As I was going to sign up there and then, and he said hold on, my internal system is showing it is capped at 100Mbps. I was going to sign up to 900Mbps. I am getting 80Mbps on fibre to cabinet. Have you heard of this happning at all?

BT don’t install FTTP , are you sure it was Openreach installing this FTTP network ?

If were Openreach , then BT may have a 900 Mb limit whenEE for example may offer 1.Gb , but there isn’t any arbitrary 100Mb limit.

No and I have no idea why that would happen other than possibly the FTTP installation is not completed and is not ready for sale.

Ok thanks - they shouldn't really advertise it as being available at those speeds, I will have to wait I guess and see what happens.

Something odd here , if this is a newly installed FTTP network, for some illogical reason the checker shows upto 330Mb as the maximum speed and that is synonymous with first generation ECI equipment from 10-15 years ago ….if this is an error setting these parameters on the checker (it almost certainly is a records issue they won’t have installed old equipment ) then automatic systems that use this incorrect data will error , if 330Mb is the incorrectly set limit , then any speed above that will not show as available, which may be why the agent says 100 Mb is all that’s available (which is actually 150Mb but strangely sold as Full Fibre 100 )

This error may get resolved automatically if this entry has only just appeared , so waiting a day or two may see the correct speeds showing , unfortunately explaining this to an ISP customer service representative probably won’t be of any use , they are not likely to understand and even if they do , they can’t do anything about it , and you raising this issue with the appropriate people, if it doesn’t resolve itself , may not be easy .

There's something not quite right there anyway.

The checker says WBC FTTP 330Mb/s down, not 1000, (as mine says). It certainly doesn't mention 1.6Gb/s being available. Internal wiring issue, perhaps?

Ok well thanks for the heads up - good to know it is possibly error and not some sort of restriction due to the location or something like that. I am close to the centre of town so not rural and my Father who lives 10 minutes away gets over 1000Mbps.

I will keep checking in with them every couple of weeks.

The guy did drill through electrical cables so not internal lights in the common areas at the moment. Hopefully if there is an error it will be picked up by somebody somewhere. Perhaps once the whole complex has been finished.

If the actual installation work isn’t yet finished, so testing/commissioning etc is needed it may be what’s shown currently is just a ‘holding’ status until the installation work is booked off as finished, that’s just speculation on my part though….as stated ,check again in a few days it may change, it could be you were a little too quick off the mark as far as trying to order
