Do you have a family with intensive gaming needs or do you download huge files etc? If not and assuming you don't actually need Halo, just phone BT and tell them you want to move to a lower speed package such as 500mbps and tell them you no longer want Halo.

If you can’t or won’t do that, look for another ISP.

Currently on Full Fibre 900 Halo 3+ and paying £95. I'm out of contract and BT are offering me to renew for another 24 months for £79. I still think this is a bit much and I don't think I'm getting the most out of Full Fibre 900 Halo 3+.

Full Fibre 900 is only £35 and offers the same speed but obviously I'm not given any option to downgrade to this... How can I switch to a product like this and save some money?

Having Halo3+ if you don’t want or need its benefits (and TBH , I’d say the majority don’t need what it provides) get rid of it and move to a non Halo product, if you don’t automatically get offered that ( and you probably won’t if simply relying on BT email offers or what’s on your ‘My BT’ offers ) make a call , anecdotally it seems difficult to get out of Halo but surely worth calling about , after all this doesn’t affect your options as far as moving to a new provider.

Do your research first and check what other ISPs are offering. Make sure you are comparing like for like.

You then need to call BT 0330.1234.150 and tell BT that you no longer want a Halo package. You only want a Broadband only package, either 900Mbps or less if you want a cheaper one. or a Broadband and landline package if you want a phone.

They will most likely tell you that you can not downgrade from Halo. That is not correct. Be insistent and tell them you will happily move to a new ISP if BT can not offer the package that you want.

If the still will not offer what you want just contact the ISP that offers what you want and move to them. It is not difficult to move.

Be aware that if you have a BTMail email account this will be downgraded to a BTMail Basic account which can only be used with a web browser. You can keep it and be able to use it with an email client/app if you pay £7.50 per month for a BTMail Premium email account.

Thanks, with regards to the speed, I'm happy paying for the full 910mbps and with two kids and myself and my wife often working from home it's reassuring to know we have plenty of bandwidth. The Wifi extender is good (our house is over 3 floors) but the broadband backup is next door to useless. The odd time the broadband has gone down the cellular signal has not been strong enough to maintain a connection.

I like BT and the router is awesome I had just hoped there was a nice, handy online way I could have changed my package considering I'm currently out of contract. I'll give them a call and see what they can do. If I don't get a decent reply I'll just change to Vodafone for a few years on their Full Fibre 910 for ~£35.

If you're so enamoured with the BT router and don't need a landline then try plusnet..£35 900mbps and a £150 gift card.

Plusnet also use the same router as BT just a different colour

Thanks, with regards to the speed, I'm happy paying for the full 910mbps and with two kids and myself and my wife often working from home it's reassuring to know we have plenty of bandwidth. The Wifi extender is good (our house is over 3 floors) but the broadband backup is next door to useless.

I completely agree regarding the broadband backup. It’s a great concept in theory, but if you're heavily reliant on continuous cloud connections or live calls for work, a weak cellular signal just doesn't cut it.

With both my partner and me working from home, network drops are an absolute nightmare—especially for tracking our logged time. My company has fairly strict timesheet policies, and because I contract with a German-speaking team, I have to precisely track my flexible schedules across different time zones. I actually use arbeitszeitrechnerprofi.de to calculate my exact working hours and daily balances. When the main line drops and the BT cellular backup fails to pick up the slack, it throws a massive wrench in the whole day's schedule.

Sticking with the 900mbps package is definitely the safe play if you have multiple people WFH across three floors. Have you looked into setting up a third-party mesh network (like TP-Link Deco or Eero) instead of relying entirely on the standard extenders? I found that gave us much better, uninterrupted coverage for the upstairs home offices.
