First I am not asking for parenting advice. So please do not give any.

15 year old with mental health issues not allowed on internet without supervision.

He has stolen an old family kindle. He accesses WiFi through that. I have change WiFi password. This kindle must have automatically reconnected following password change.

If I block it (pause) on BTapp, he does something that disconnects everyone and returns Hub to original password.

He is adamant he hasn’t got it - we know he has. I’ve even provided screen shots.

i have google and can see you can block a device using a MAC address - this MAC address has not changed.

ive tried to go through the instructions advanced settings / wireless but can see no option to filter and then block using a MAC address.

At wits end - need help. But please I cannot stress enough we do not need parental advice and the “just get it off him”.

You’d be wasting your time. MAC addresses can be spoofed, so you block it, he’ll just change to a new MAC.

What is interesting is the idea the Kindle automatically reconnects on a password change. It can’t do that. Have you disabled WPS? If not, I suspect he’s using that to reconnect. Also, if he resets the hub to defaults, not only will it turn WPS back on but it will also drop the hub back to the default password, (which he probably already knows).

It is also possible he is connecting to the BT/EE Wi-Fi hotspot but I doubt it unless he knows your account details.

Edit: How about a new hub? You can pick them up cheap off Amazon. Remove the labels with the password on and he's stuck even if he does reset it. (Unfortunately, thinking about it, there would still be the WPS problem if he resets it. I suppose if you are going to buy a hub of your own, you could open it up and physically disable the WPS switch. No idea how easy that would be to do).

As in glue the switch up...brilliant.

If you do get a new hub, make sure you get one that has the right connection type. Some of the old units on sale could only connect to Part Fibre/DSL/FTTC connections, not Full Fibre FTTP. A quick look shows a Full Fibre capable one at £31 and an old DSL only one at £16.

(Can’t give you a direct link to them, as commercial links are against forum rules).
