@mattyjoyce71

Regarding your original questions at the start of your thread:-

If you migrate from BT to EE you will not be classed as a new customer and you can not use the OTS method.

You can migrate at anytime as long as you are moving to a similar or higher package there will be no fee if your BT Broadband Fixed Term Contract still has time to run. It may be difficult to move to a "lower" package without a fee but you should be able to negotiate something with the sales people.

You do not need to give 30 days notice which would actually only have been 14 days notice if you were switching providers using the system prior to OTS. Using the OTS system this is now taken care of by the ISP that you are moving to.

If you are out of your Fixed Term Contract you can migrate to EE anytime and you should be able to select any package you want.

There is no guarantee that you will get a new EE router which is Wifi 6 capable because you will already have a BT Smarthub2 that can still be used. There are no known plans for BT to upgrade the Smarthub 2 anytime soon if indeed at all.

If you ask for a new EE Hub to be part of your package for moving it is possible if not very likely they will include one.

BT will ask for the Smarthub2 to be returned if you do get an EE router as is the case if you move to any other ISP.

If you do migrate to EE your BTMail email will stay exactly as it is at present, which is a "Standard" email account. It will still be manged through your MyBT using your BTID.

If you move to Plusnet you can use the OTS method.

If still in your BT Fixed Term Contract contract you may be liable for early termination fees.

Your BTMail account will be "downgraded" to BTMail Basic which can only be used with webmail on a web browser unless you pay £7.50 per month to "upgrade" to a BT Premium email account.

As regards comments that you will only get 200Mbps on BT Broadband using the BT Smarthub 2 on wifi. This has been debunked many times on the forum and I can state from personal experience with a 500Mbps package I get on average over 400Mbps using the SM2 on the Wifi 5Ghz channel as do other members on the forum.

To sum up you are best to look around at other ISPs to see what they are offering. Make sure you compare like for like as some offer "extras" for the same price, some of which may be of no interest to you.

As regards the router, again look around at what third part routers are available as there are many to choose from most of which will offer better choices regarding what features and settings the user can change than any of the ISPs will offer.

Morning, been a BT customer since 2003 and never had an issue (apart from the prices ).

Anyway every contract term ends I keep getting persuaded to switch to EE, similar price so my question is for those that have moved across is it worth it, does EE give you anything different than BT. I know the routers are meant to be better but are they really ?

My only slight criticism with is the home hub from BT, def feels a little outdated, especially with wifi 6 and 7 becoming standard, does anyone know if there are plans for BT to release a new hub ?

Anyway I welcome your thoughts please, my contract ends in October so a bit of time research.

oh one small question, assuming if I do move my BT e-mail addresses I have are still ok to use

Thanks in advance

It's odd that BT don't rebrand the EE wifi 6/7 router's and offer them to BT broadband customers.

The only noticeable difference at the moment is Norton anti virus is a chargeable add on with EE but "free" with BT and Plusnet.

Personally out of the three I would choose Plusnet as it's cheaper.

Finally do you actually need 900mbps? Because in the everyday world there's literally no noticeable difference between this and the 300/500 mbps deals.

Hi, thanks for reply, possibly not, however I do work from home and have 4 heavy family users on wifi and direct connection.

tbh if the service is not that different at EE I will stay where I am, BT has stayed reliable for years and years so if it is not broken ...... I just wondered if the router you get with EE is better that's all.

Thanks though

Personally in my experience no doubt the EE wifi 6 is well better.

With the BT SH2 all I could manage was around 200mbps over wifi on a 500mbps package.

Now I regularly go over the 500mbps on wifi with the privately bought EE router

So after a bit of reading yes the EE router for fibre900 has wifi 6 which is better, perfect for what I need. You can buy the wifi 7 router from ebay so might be an option later.

Also states you can keep your BT e-mail addresses which is great.

One last question which I get mixed answer for if I switch do I get a new EE router (not the wifi 7 pro one obvious;y), do you have to ask for one >?

thanks

Thank you, ok might be time to move

Although just looking on Uswitch about other providers and boy they are cheaper, by a lot - Plusnet and Vodafone are 20 pounds month cheaper for the same 900 service, wow

Other providers will indeed provide a significantly cheaper broadband than long-time customers of BT are having to pay. Moving to EE won't get any cheaper deals because, despite BT insisting it is completely separate from EE, EE will identify you as an existing customer of the BT group and not offer you the new customers rates. Not sure if this also applies to Plusnet but I suspect it does.
Also, if you move to non-BT broadband supplier, you'll lose your current "premium" email service, unless you pay a monthly fee. You will still get a basic email service but, in particular, that won't allow you to access your emails via an email client (such as Thunderbird or indeed the email access apps built into mobile phones). You can only access it via a web browser.

Hi i have been looking to upgrade to EE 900 mbps as well currently paying £51.54, i do have sports and Netflix which are extras and no phone, the upgrades are £60.99 and £72.99, but when i look at it from being a new customer the price is only £37.99 for 900 mbps, i have 9 months of my 24 monthly contract remaining so it looks like they are adding about £35 when adding the wifi 7 router per month for the privilege, i have bought a new computer which is wifi 6 compliant, i know i can buy my own router but i am not that confident i would be buying the right one. So maybe it isn't worth upgrading.

The wifi 7 pro one is better but not necessary at the moment.

If you want an EE router you can get them for £30 or £40 from ebay, maybe I might stick with BT ad do that ,

BT don't have a wifi 6 router so be difficult offering you something that doesn't exist.

You will have to join EE to gain access to one, or buy one from Ebay.

The wifi 6 router is the standard router offered by EE and is included with all new deals free.

You pay extra for the wifi 7 router

Bizarrely BT paint the aging SH2 router white and pass it off as a plusnet router yet the same rationale dosnt apply to BT rebranding the superior EE router's and offering those to BT broadband users

Had the most frustrating time of my recent life these last 2 weeks trying to get a decent package from BT/EE/Plusnet when my BT contract ends - in 24 hours now - but it's been impossible. Despite claiming to be different companies to inland revenue etc, they treat customers as if we're all customers of one company and refuse us the cheaper deals they are offering to new customers from outside the triumvirate. Fair enough to offer an incentive of some kind perhaps but the price differences here are considerable. What's more, I've been paying for a guarantee of not being charged more for a new contract than a new customer and discover that this only applies if I take another over-priced package equivalent to the package I have and it is the failure of this package to deliver on its promises that is causing me to look for another!!

As someone said here, there's a lot of smoke an mirrors being put about by the triumvirate at the moment and to judge from the sales people I have been dealing with (Sales/Loyalty/Retention/Value - different names for the same people), the companies' staff are becoming as frustrated as the customers.

I see that some commentators here claim they have been able to switch immediately their fixed term contract ends without have to serve a 30 day notice period. Please could someone explain how I can do that.
