If you've no need whatsoever for a landline, then I'd assume you can just call BT and ask them to cancel the landline and as long as you are not in a contract that would leave you paying an early termination fee, then there shouldn't be a problem?

How long have you had the landline with BT and have you re-contracted with BT at all in the last 2 years?

Moving to FTTH (FTTP) supplied by Vodafone - Do I still need Landline/Line Rental

So, I've got a Landline/Phone (which only gets used by spam callers), my company payed for my FTTC broadband with O2 Business Broadband. That is being replaced this week by Vodafone FTTH. Can I cancel by BT phoneline contract or do I still need that for something? I have no need for any landline/phone/medical alert.

Thanks

Many years and no-recontract.

So getting FTTP has no requirements on anything from BT - I can cancel and have no impact on my internet?

If you aren't currently getting your broadband from BT but it's being supplied by a different company, then no, BT don't have any hold on you for that, only the landline element.

The best thing you can do, is call BT and tell them you no longer wish to have the landline and as you are not in a contract that would entail early termination fees, there seems to be no issue there.

Undoubtedly, you'll be questioned about why you don't want to have the landline any more and you can politely tell the person you are talking to, to mind their own business as it really has nothing to do with them. I would expect though that some call centre employee will be reading off a script and will try and sell you something you don't need or want.

I assume that your employer is still going to pay for your internet albeit with Vodafone upon switching? Are they taking all the necessary action on your behalf, or are you having to negotiate with Vodafone relating to the switch from O2 Business?

Either way, the broadband element is nothing to do with BT.

You need to to clarify something , is your employer paying for FTTC broadband on the same line (but on a separate account) from your BT telephone service, so in effect you pay for telephone only and your employer pays for the broadband only ?, if so that kind of shared metallic path facility is ancient and hasn’t been available for quite some time ….if your employer informs O2 business that the broadband is no longer needed in the past that would simply convert the line from SMPF ( shared metallic path facility) back to a direct exchange line (DEL), but these days that isn’t allowed anyway , but O2 can’t cease your telephone if they don’t pay for it only you can do that .

TBH , if you don’t want telephony call BT and say you don’t want telephony anymore and to cease it , it’s then up-to your employer and VF how they replace your broadband.
