14 day cooling off period and halo 3 +

My mother bought 900mphs with halo 3 + because they told her she has to have halo 3 + since she already has it (i don't believe it), £60 a month which i feel is very high. I called and said she wants a basic 900mphs package, they said it would be better to wait after the stuff is installed then call them back to remove the halo 3+ extras since i have a 14 day cooling off period. Am i getting accurate info?

No. Tell them you want to cancel the Halo package now. She does not need it. It is a very expensive add on that nobody needs.

You do not want to install it then try and have it removed. You will find doing that almost impossible.

There is no reason that they can not cancel her order now.

Unless she is a heavy gamer and watches multiple 4k TV/Video a 150Mbps broadband package would be more than enough or at most a 500Mbps if the slight difference in price between the two warrants it.

How much is "Standalone BT Full Fibre 900" for existing customers? Cant get a clear answer on the website. The offer they gave my mother was "900mphs with halo 3+ for £60 a month" which i just cancelled

Oh thanks, contract ran out. These prices are for existing customers too right?

Call BT to see if they will give you those prices.

If they will not call the BT Retentions Team 0800 783 1401 and tell them you are out of contract and that you are wanting those prices.

Before doing that have a look at other ISP prices for new customers and see what is on offer. Make sure you are checking like for like. If Retentions won't give you a good deal tell them what the other ISPs are offering and that you are prepared to go to one of them.

If they still won't give a good deal just move to the other ISP.

Firstly, I'd agree whole-heartedly with gg30340, 150Mb/s is plenty fast enough. I upgraded from part-fibre at 58Mb/s to full-fibre 150Mb/s, back in September. Operationally, it's made no difference to the speed stuff comes down at. The big difference is the improved reliability/stability of full-fibre, not the throughput.

There are two ends to any connection and a lot going on in between. Your end of the connection is only one factor and does not affect the speed at the other end etc. I've worked for small businesses with much less bandwidth than that. Speeds in the home market are just getting plain silly now. If you have six kids that are avid gamers, and you and the wife want to download separate 4k movies at the same time then maybe, but for most people 900Mb/s is way over the top.

It's just like a cars salesman trying to sell you a 140mph car, if he can. It's a waste of time as you can still only do 30 in an urban zone. Of course BT will sell you 900Mb/s if they can.

Secondly, you wanted an indication of prices. I was in a similar position to your mum. I was up to about £68 for Part Fibre + Halo, out of contract for about five years. As BT wouldn't give me a decent price, I initiated a move to Sky. Sky subsequently screwed it up, so I cancelled. In the meantime BT were miraculously offering me Full-Fibre 150 for £26.99. So it can be done. I think it's about £3 more for a new customer now, but I might be wrong on that.

@Kahn1 If it helps you any, I just checked a well known comparison site and BT Fibre 150 is available for £23.99 a month for brand new customers, so that's the sort of price you should be aiming to get. I suspect as you are a existing BT customer, you'll effectively be told to do one, but there's no harm in trying.

Alternatively, you could skip over to EE who are still BT in all but brand name, and get 150mbps for £22.99 as a brand new customer.

With EE, even 900mbps will only cost £25.99 and you get a £130 Reward card as well.

All of those prices are based on fibre only, no phone. It's also the start of a brand new month and deals change regularly.

I genuinely wish I could switch now from my current provider but I've got another 9 months left on contract.

If you are presently a BT Broadband customer regardless of whether you are in a Fixed Term Contract or a 30 day Rolling Contract you can not use the One Touch Switch (OTS) system if you want to move to EE.

As far as I am aware you will not be classed as a new customer if you move to EE however if you contact BT/EE Sales Retention team they might be able to unlock some offers that new EE customers may get.

I got £23.99 a month package for 150mb full fibre without all the extras, just basic broadband. Not bad at all
