I can’t see your images until a mod releases them from quarantine, but when I had Full Fibre (FTTP) put in, I was initially on Fibre 2 at 74Mb/s. It was a couple of weeks before I upgraded that to 150Mb/s, (negotiating a decent price). As iniltous & Licquorice said, they can supply Fibre 1 and Fibre 2 over FTTP once it is available.

The main difference is the stability and reliability. None of this varying with the weather nonsense. FTTP is rock-steady. Back to the same speed every time you reboot it.

Full Fibre or part Fibre??

We have just had telegraph poles installed in our street so bt can supply full fibre as the copper is buried on our estates. I have had 15yrs of slow speeds and disconnects due to damaged copper underground so have been waiting for this day to come for a long time😀 So I got the email before about upgrading to full fibre but the packages confuse me as if you look at what it says highlighted yellow it is part fibre? They do have one other package above this part fibre message they offered me and it is called full fibre 900 for £36.99. My current package is on the damaged underground 70,s copper and barely gets 30mbps dl and 6mbps uploads. So are they full fibre or part fibre😂as it says on the package full fibre 150-500?

Thanks Mike

Part Fibre (FTTC) maximum speed is 80Mb (ignoring Gfast as its no longer sold ) so any speed higher than that must be FTTP , even if a customer ‘only’ wanted 40,55 or 80 Mb , speeds that are also achievable on FTTC , once FTTP is available it becomes the default choice of network , even for these relatively modest speeds .

Fibre can supply any speed of Broadband, it's not restricted to just the higher speeds. Not everybody wants higher speed.

Basically the images are full fibre 900 best value for me then the screen splits with a line that says all plans shown use part fibre technology. And under this line I have my current package fibre 2 then package full fibre 150 same price as my fibre 2 then another package full fibre 500 for an extra £3 a month the full fibre 900 is an extra £6 a month.

Mike

Yes, I can see it now.

It is confusing. The max speed you'll get on Part-Fibre is 80Mb/s, so I would assume it is a typo. Worth checking though.

Edit: The real thing to note there is where it says under your current package...upgrade to Full Fibre 100 for free when it becomes available. This is what I took advantage of. Firstly, Full Fibre 100 is actually 150Mb/s, so why they still call it 100 I don't know. Secondly, I did have to raise a complaint when they tried to charge me more for it. Fortunately, I'd kept a copy of that screenshot and when I presented it to complaints they did reduce the price and honour the offer. Thirdly, 150Mb/s is plenty fast enough for most people. There are two ends to any connection and a hell of a lot going on in between. Just because your end is faster doesn't necessarily mean the download will be any faster. Unless you have six kids that are avid gamers and you and the wife want to download separate 4k movies at the same time, I doubt you'll notice any improvement. Operationally, I've found 150Mb/s performs the same as 58Mb/s did, it's just more consistent.

The max I can get now on part fibre is 30mbps so I recon any of the other packages will be full fibre and as others have said now we have a pole across from our house it will be full if i go for the 150 or 500 package.

Mike

Yeah think i will go with the full fibre 150 as its no extra cost and only one big kid at home now who is a gamer and complains about lag😂 we do stream 4k netflix and stuff but it's usually fine although my cctv does not stream very well when trying to view away from home. But i suspect this is down to the upload speed barely getting 6mbps.

Thanks everyone for your help👍

Mike

I've just remembered, they call it 100 as 100Mb/s is the guaranteed minimum.

Upload is 30Mb/s. Mine has been consistently 29Mb/s but good enough.
