Hi,

I have received an email apparently from hello@message.bt.com offering a free upgrade of my fttc service from 74Mb to 150Mb. The partial account that is shown matches my account.

The link takes me to a log in page at https://beta-auth.bt.com/…………. which does not recognise my email &/or password.

Logging in directly to BT takes me to https:://auth.bt.com/……….. from where I can log in normally. I do not see this offer when I look at available upgrades there.

Is this a known spam or is the beta log in url genuine & being a bit flaky?

Many thanks in anticipation someone knows what is happening here.

Flambert

Is FTTP available in your area (or perhaps you already have FTTP choosing to take F2 (80Mb) broadband ) if you don’t have FTTP available, then it’s a mistake anyway , I received an email recently offering the same thing , but I know 150 Mb is impossible in my location, I received a second email very shortly after the first apologising for the error saying as much , but it also stated FTTP is on the way, and it is , I’ve seen the techs working in the locality, but it’s not available yet.

You may be in that position, if you are , no FTTP , just ignore the offer , if FTTP is available, it’s not likely to be spam , these kind of offer is currently widespread.

So I receive an email from BT which offers a free speed increase from my current 74 Mbs to 150 Mbs with no change to current contract. I click on the link and have to log in but it keeps saying that it is incorrect. I tried a few times, no joy, but I can log in to bt.com no problem. I tried on my tablet, my phone and 4 different browsers on my desktop pc, all with the same result. It seems to me that BT do not want to give me the faster speed. Anyone know why this is happening?

Are you sure it is a BT email and not a scam email. You should never click on links on any email unless you are 100% certain it is a genuine email.

Hi iniltous,

Thanks for your reply.

At present I am on a FTTC connection at 75Mb and have been for a number of years. I believe that it is technically possible to double that up to 150Mb (?) and presumed the offer was being made on the premise.

FTTP should be available as far as I can see, via Post Code check and work that Open Reach has done locally. However my BT account does not offer me this upgrade option.

Given that the email is probably genuine (even if the offer is erroneous) I do not know why the log in on the "beta-auth" does not recognise my email address/password. I can only assume that that is a problem at BTs end.

150Mb is only available now via FTTP , it once were possible to get over 80 Mb via Gfast (FTTC on steroids) but that’s no longer offered even if there was Gfast in your area previously and you were close enough (distance wise ) to benefit from it .

There can be a lag between FTTP being installed by Openreach and availability showing on BT

Just make sure to mask any personal details showing on here.

Also is the email address you've mentioned above definitely the one that it's been sent from, or if you tap on it does a different address show?

It is a genuine upgrade but it took me through digital voice too when I ordered the upgraded broadband and I just clicked through and made no changes to my existing package.

I received an email yesterday saying the upgrade has started and welcoming me to digital voice. It also states that is a 2 year contract from when I use the phone. Is this the catch? Free upgrade to broadband with your original contract end but tie in to a phone contract instead. I will cancel the free upgrade and definitely switch provider at the end of my contract early next year if this is the case. I have also checked the speed. I was offered 900Mbps instead of 300 and have checked the speed four times today. The speeds recorded in time order from earliest to latest check- 380Mbps, 410 Mbps, 320 Mbps and in the last few minutes 260 Mbps. What is happening with the service?

@AG26 that should have not happened if it was the same email shown in this thread.
Mine was free and no recontract, therefore my original contract is intact and expires in May 27. Also the upgrade is the same price, upgrade from 150 to 500mbs.

I've also had the upgrade from 150 to 500 for £1 but unable to log in email, including a reminder today.

I've logged into my account in the normal way and can't for the life of me see any offer in there apart from adding a TV package.
