fibre to home

Currently my phone is ug fed and appears on the other side of the kitchen so I presume cable under the floor (not in duct). To get full fibre to same point would mean roving my ceramic floor .I do not have ready made relocation.What about my plock paved front porch and access to to connection box in road.I do not want it lifting ,do not know if theres a duct??

they should do this from overhead from the pole via terminal

if you alreeady have an ont you will be fine if not the will ad one if you have a BT faceplate as this was for part fibre

this should state this in the install similar to this

via the to the csp you dont use the same faceplate so you could move it

im assuming all openreach provider will pefer to install overhead from the pole or all openreach providers do this the same way

It’s not clear what you actually are asking ,do you want FTTP ?

If your house is currently served via a directly buried armoured copper cable ( so not in a duct ) that was the common way service was provided to housing in the 1960’s through to the early 1990’s ‘ . If this cable passes under your blocked pave driveway, and appears at the rear of the property so you assume it’s also under the floor of the property, it’s pretty irrelevant, this cable is abandoned if FTTP is ordered , there is no reason why any new fibre cable needs to appear in the same place as the copper cable does at the rear of the property , in fact in this case the new cable would be installed to the front aspect of the house (closest to the footpath where the fibre network is ) no excavation of the floor inside the house would ever be considered, if you wanted the ONT at the rear and it can be done safely and quickly, cable on wall is used to get from where the new optical cable appears on the front to the rear ( assuming it’s possible, you may have to have the ONT also at the front of the property, if it were a mid terrace property for example.

If there is no way to avoid your block paving as it covers the area between the footpath and your house wall entirely, and you don’t want it interfered with, just don’t order FTTP , if you find that renewing your ‘contract’ requires FTTP to be installed and switching to a different provider also requires FTTP to be installed, simply remain with whoever you are with on an out of contract basis ( so without ever renewing ) , that way your copper cable will continue to be used for your broadband for quite some time …it may not be the best move financially, and may be relatively slow in comparison to FTTP , but that’s your choice, if you don’t want any upheaval, don’t order FTTP .

Look at what is says at the bottom. UG is underground, OH is overhead, i.e. poles. FTTP is full fibre.

It is also worth being aware that there can be up to 100m between the box they fit inside, (an ONT or optical network terminal), and the hub, provided you don't mind running some ethernet cable internally.

Unfortunately, this is just a customer-to-customer self-help forum and I am just a fellow customer. The only BT employees on here are the moderators and they don’t necessarily look at every post. Also, the install will be down to Openreach (OR) and not BT. (Despite both being part of BT Group, they are completely separate companies). This forum has no connection to Openreach and so can’t speak on their behalf.

Edit: Also, while I think about it, the ONT they fit needs power, so it will have to be within about 1.5m of a power socket.

I suspect the fact you have already stated your current service is underground and not ducted has been overlooked by some contributors …..it’s possible (but not common) for Openreach to put up new poles in areas that are served underground by DIG (direct in ground) cables, but obviously you would notice if Openreach poles suddenly appeared outside , and this approach often generates complaints from residents, local councils etc , it’s rare for OR to do this , if it’s the only cost effective way FTTP can be provided, these DIG areas are usually put on the ‘back burner’ while areas that are not going to be as expensive as DIG ones are done first .

I did remove part of my post as iniltous had beaten me to it.

I was going to say that the entry point does not have to be where the existing line enters the house, and it is conceivable, if there is no ducts, that it will be cheaper for them to use poles. That's why I suggested looking at the tracker.

it connect to the newley fitted cbt on the pole the the cable is droped an then pulled through to the csp i then the ont router nside your house if i am correct @WSH @iniltous

In 90%+ of cases the way the existing copper service is delivered is how FTTP is delivered, so live in an area with existing overhead service from a pole , that’s how FTTP will be delivered, live in an area that’s ducted (as stated housing build 1990’s onwards ) the FTTP will be ducted , the exceptions can be housing areas that are underground (so no poles) but no duct either , the copper ‘phone’ cables were buried directly in the ground when the houses were constructed…..these areas are very expensive to retrospectively supply with duct , and poles where there weren’t any previously are generally unwelcome by the residents …hence these areas generally are low priority….some will get ducts (if there is money in the budget to do it ) many will simply be left alone for the time being, a very small number may get poles if the residents don’t object, and a somewhat politically incorrect point of view , if the area is mainly transient type residents , council tenants etc where no one is likely to complain they may put poles up as it’s unlikely to negatively impact the area like it would in a leafy suburb.

As far as not knowing when you order , you can check online but easier than that , look outside, if you can see a pole and yiur copper connection comes from it , then that’s also how FTTP will be delivered…it’s pretty obvious if an area is overhead service or underground, it’s not as easy to know if underground is DIG , or ducted , that’s why knowing the approximate date the housing was built is a massive clue …..1960s to very early 1990’s will be DIG .

Bt have nothing to do with supply of the service, that is in the hands of Openreach. Normally it is the same as the copper service supplied, if from pole or via duct. DIG may be provided via either but cost may come into it.
