Maybe BT should have advised customers on G.Fast that maybe they could move to a pure VoIP supplier over their existing connection rather than lose their broadband speed with Digital Voice?

Digital Voice upgrade has halved my available internet speeds

Up until today my broadband package was 150mbps download speeds which I consistently received. However today BT confirmed they completed my upgrade to digital voice and in a letter confirmed as a result my new maximum speed is 67 Mbps and that there is no change to my contract terms and I'll still be paying the same monthly amount I was paying for my old speeds.

Two questions: Anyone know why the 'upgrade' has resulted in a worse connection and if anyone else is in the same situation?

It sounds as though you were on a system known as G.Fast. G.Fast can't support digital voice, so changing to digital voice results in the G.Fast downgrading to normal FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet).

Lots of posts on here about it recently. Do a search for G.Fast.

This may superficially seem like an good idea but doesn’t bare scrutiny, why would BT suggest a competitor company, and if suggesting one , the other players in that area moan about favouritism, the entire contractual basis is changed , from BT being a telephone supplier, where the customer has an add on broadband service to a standalone broadband provider, what contact length applies here , is it a new contract or a continuation of the existing one .
It’s clearly not ideal , but if the technology is ending , and the primary product being provided is telephony, and the only way to maintain the telephony is in effect a downgrade from Gfast speeds to FTTC speeds so that DV can be provided, then that’s the only real option available, however I’d expect a price reduction to compensate for the lower speed and the option to leave penalty free to be available.
As far as keeping Gfast type speeds and a regular VoIP telephony supplier , that’s available, just not with BT , and finding a provider that still offers SoGfast may be difficult.
