I've been moved to EE from BT, at least EE send the bills now.

So if and when I get FTTP it will still be at the same speed as I get now. I imagine it takes them extra trouble to throttle a naturally fast service that much, but clearly they need to get their dosh somehow for any better service. At least their policy now makes sense. I wouldn't go to Virgin who've had full fibre for several years here as they are frequently going down, while BT/EE's ADSL and FTTC have been pretty much rock solid.

BT have been installing more fibre in my area (London NW6) and I heard somewhere that we will be moved over to FTTP in due course, with no change to my contract or charges.

This is called Switch Over Day. It is the move from FTTC to FTTP, and is not Digital Voice which I already have via FTTC.

Is there any way to get a rough idea of when this might happen?

If you look closely at details contained within the document , its clear it’s a pretty old one and is from many years ago when customers were moved free of charge from ADSL to FTTC , hence the comments around connecting a new router ( if one were necessary ) in advance of the remote changeover (basically connecting the copper pair to the ‘fibre’ cabinet ) , no customer visit was needed etc ,

There is currently no compulsory change to FTTP and obviously anyone moving to FTTP needs an installation visit , if FTTP comes to an area , you have to arrange to get it , either by proactively contacting your provider, of responding to an offer to take it .

Unfortunately the website is littered with documents that are historic , still visible years after they were current .

OK, it looks like they will install full fibre next year. After that, EE will "eventually" contact me to install FTTP. "As an existing customer, they typically facilitate these network upgrades without charging an additional premium on your base service tier." So I won't hold my breath, but will stick with EE and wait for the upgrade. My 57 Mbps download speed is fine for what I currently use, but I'd like faster upload speeds to run a homeserver.

If /when FTTP becomes available your existing provider may contact you about upgrading to FTTP , but it will require you to accept a new minimum term contract , the only exceptions to this were specifically when customers were still on PSTN (this offer was for BT customers , not necessarily EE customers, you posting here as an EE customer rather than BT wasn’t necessarily the same ) , BT contacted the user about changing to DV and offered the option to transfer to FTTP at the same time , with no extra contractual obligation, thus effectively was OR taking the opportunity to get end users off copper , that’s what the ISP terms (speed and contract length) were unaffected, and it was optional, no need to accept the offer of FTTP , the DV change was the only compulsory change.
There is no premium to pay for FTTP compared to FTTC , the 40/55/80Mb speeds available on FTTC are exactly the same price on FTTP , obviously you have the option to buy higher speeds once on FTTP , and if higher speed uploads are wanted , you would need to take a higher speed download to get that improved upload .

You said you wanted the option of a faster upload speed , it will be your choice once FTTP is available , first , if you want to take it initially, you can stay on FTTC until your minimum term renewal , and then if you do decide to take FTTP , to keep the same speed profile you have on FTTC at the same price as FTTC , (and that includes the apparently inadequate upload speed needed for you to run a server ) or take a faster download profile that has a better upload speed, that’s your choice ….you said you wanted a better upload speed.

Not sure why you have a problem with pricing that reflects differing levels of ‘service’ , higher speeds costing more than slower speeds, that’s hardly unique to EE …..you can’t just sit in a business class seat on an aircraft if you paid for an economy seat …..stating the costs to the airline to fly to the destination there are the same regardless of where you are sitting , they won’t let you sit in that business seat unless you pay for it .

The service is as fast as it is provisioned for, it is not 'Throttled'. You buy whatever speed suits your needs.

I don't really have a problem with the cost. I just naively assumed that the move to FTTP would give some speed increase, to something more in line to what people expect from full fibre. But they have to recoup their infrastructure costs.

I'll decide when it becomes available, comparing all the options. That includes any alternative fibre providers. Apart from Virgin we have Hyperoptic now, and maybe by then community fibre.

Depending on what you actually receive from FTTC a speed uplift may occur because of the technology change ….FTTC is rate adaptive, the speed slows due to distance, FTTP isn’t rate adaptive, so (for arguments sake ) if you are on F2 (an 80Mb profile) but rate adaption has reduced this to 65Mb , then F2 on FTTP delivers the headline rate of 80Mb , because there is no reduction due to distance.

In my case , I recently upgraded to FTTP from 80 Mb FTTC , ( and got 80Mb as only around 100m to the cabinet ) the BT offer was 150Mb for the same price as I was paying for 80Mb , albeit with a new minimum 24 months, but as I was less than a year into my FTTC deal anyway it only added an extra 14 months onto the 10 months I had remaining, EE may well have similar inducements once FTTP is available.
