Mobile contract

I have a mobile contract that expires on the 8/6/22 can I change it now to make it cheaper or would I have to pay a fee and also my wife has a contract ending next year is there anyway of changing hers also to make it cheaper as we r on universal credit and the price of both mobiles is steep

Handset to new handset in the last 3 months of the term.
Handset downgraded to sim only in the last 30 days of the term.

If you're on Universal Credit then you might qualify for BT Home Essentials which is a low cost social tariff for broadband and includes calls.
