Still being charged for handset after 24 monyhs

Purchased a handset and sim approx 26 months ago. The contract was fir 24 months which I assumed my handset would be paid off by then and I would only have to pay for the sim. But the full amount is still being billed to me

The contract will have been for 24 months but if you check it it'll also state that after 24 months you continue paying the same if you did nothing, it wasn't split into a handset & usage contract so the prices are the same. Nothing has been done wrong here & I'd suggest you look at the options available to you

How do they justify charging over 40 month for a phone with 3gig

Why didn't you cantact BT when your 24 months contract ended and either get a new phone or change your mobile contract to SIM only?

Yea I should have. It is my wife’s phone mine is on o2 and the handset is paid up after 24 months and the sim is separate from the handset

In your first post you use the word assumed, it was never the same style of contract as O2, everything about this would've been cleared what happened after the 24 months too
