The Athletic BT 1 year offer subscription renewal - warning - no prior notice of subscription taken

I took up the one year “The Athletic” free subscription from BT on 23 August 2021. I seldom used it and forgot about it until PayPal notified me that £59.99 was taken from my account to pay for a year on 23 August 2022.

I’m absolutely furious there was no renewal notification, solely a message that money was taken. No refunds given according to their terms. Impossible to contact. Read reviews on Trustpilot where I have added mine.

This is totally incompatible with CMA practices and it is unfair notice. Now whilst this is between me and the Athletic and PayPal - BT did invite many to join. They will likely see many others in my situation.

If it’s not too late for others unlike me, please check and heed this warning in case you wish to cancel.
