Eurosport moves home to TNT Sports

TNT Sports in the UK will become the new home for a host of live sports including Tennis, Cycling, Snooker and the Olympics.

From the 28^th of February 2025 the Eurosport and TNT Sports brands will be brought together.

All your existing sports content currently on Eurosport 1 & 2 will be available on TNT Sports channels 1 to 4.

All TV customers with TNT Sports as part of their subscription have access to these channels through your set top box and through the discovery + App. If you're an app only subscriber, you'll find the channels there.

Any on-demand content currently in the discovery+ App is unaffected by this change and if you're an EETV subscriber, any recordings will remain until the 28^th of March.

World and British Superbikes?

These have tended to be bumped to non-broadcast Eurosport streams if they clashed with a more "mainstream" sport. Will these still be available via the Discovery+ app?

@JordanTA Do you know what is happening to the legacy TNT Sports on top tier mobile app packages? Email from Discovery suggests we are being downgraded to no sport but that doesn’t make sense as we were sold deals with Sport (albeit out of minimum term now).

No comms from BT yet.

Does this mean we go from six channels (TNT 1-4 + EURO 1+2) Down to four, presumably at the same price!

Ha! Email received from BT entitled ‘TNT Sports and Eurosport will be brought together’ but it has no content in the email body - just the standard footers.

Guess someone pressed Send too soon!

The losing of 2 linear channels is perhaps the most disappointing part of this. We knew when TNT Sports launched that the Eurosport brand wasn't going to survive in the UK post the Paris Olympics. Yes there are big implications for fans of 'Eurosport-only' sports particularly cycling (with the recent TdF deal) but I think it was always expected that it would become a 'premium' service.

The fact they are now rolling the channels into the existing 4 'proper' TNT channels is really poor. I know 'Max' is coming but I still find D+ a mess to navigate and would often use an EPG to find out what's on and then go to D+ to watch it ad-free.

Linear TV may be dying but with sport the crucial thing especially with some of the 'lesser' sports is knowing when they are on e.g. I saw watched the Hahnenkamm downhill at the weekend because I saw it on the EPG.

Linear TV is never ideal for live programming which often has schedule changes and overruns. On demand is by far a better solution now we have the possibility. Also linear channels have higher presentation costs compared to streams that just pop up as required.

Regarding the BT email it has been resent but is just talking about where the Eurosport content is going (I.e. onto the 4 existing TNT channels). No answers around my package question so I can either believe Discovery’s email (that I am losing sport) or BT (that i keep the TNT channels I already have without any loss of content).

The problem with on demand is discoverability, particularly with more niche sports, now I try to watch and keep up with a lot but it's certainly a lot less likely I'll stumble across something if I have to open an app for each broadcaster.

Rights are so fragmented nowaday that it means keeping up with what's on Sky, TNT, Premier plus FTA channels and occasionally Amazon and a lot of sports that stream on Youtube. A single place to see what's on is for at least those first 3 outlets is pretty handy.

As for the 4 channel issue Scott Young was interviewed saying they've been simulating schedules for a year and it has been fine, but I do find it hard to believe we won't be worse off with sports being shunted off to D+. As far as I can see if you are on the basic tier and do nothing you lose Eurosport and your price drops to £3.99, otherwise if you have TNT currently nothing changes except you'll see Eurosport content folded in to those TNT channels.

@gomezz That web site has Sky Sports showing The Ashes this winter. Do they have inside info? Recent speculation has been that TNT Sports will be showing them again.

I saw that as well, although nothing is settled yet. So I think they've jumped the gun a little.

Personally, I don't pay much attention to anything listed beyond the current seven day window when making plans for my individual viewing pleasure.

@gomezz It does appear (sensibly) that some motor sports are moving to TNT sports ahead of the announced timescale.

Noticed two catch up streams listed on the app for each of the opening WSB sessions from overnight and currently playing the ad-free versions.

(don't normally bother with the free practise sessions but as it is the first round it is a good way of getting up to speed with this season's runners and riders)
