Package Renaming and HD Upgrades?

Hiya folks.

I saw some posts on a few websites saying that Sports was getting HD as standard (TNT Sports) but ive then read a few threads and seeing conflicting information.

We get TNT Sports on a Pro Box which also includes HBO Max access for TNT HD and TNT 4K but the Pro Box only shows me linear channels in SD, with HD showing an upgrade screen. Is TNT SD being upgraded to HD or does that remain at SD?

The packages were refreshed earlier this month, and HD is now included as standard on Sport and Sport Plus.

You can switch to one of the new packages however this will require a re-contract for another 2 years.

Check the prices - depending when you joined, it may still be cheaper to just pay for the add-on.

So the HD changes aren't being rolled out to existing customers? Meaning i won't get the HD linear channels without a 'recontract'?

The HD channels aren't included in the package you're subscribed to.

You can either re-contract onto one of the new packages, or pay for the HD add-on with your existing package and contract.

I haven't looked at specifics for your account, but for another customer who asked the same question, it worked out the same price - £6 for the add-on, or take the new package which was £6 more than he was currently paying.

Like anything in these situations they cannot change your package without you agreeing to it in the first place

Sky had no problem doing this when TNT closed the SD versions. If BT wanted to, their changes could very easily have been applied to existing customers if this was how it would be offered going forward. Virgin also do the same - you get the upgrade simply applied. Shame BT/EE don't.

The Sky change was a Sky one not BT, they decided to switch off the sd versions so it's different than you thinking an old package probably at a different price as mentioned previously should get something a new pqckage does for free

What a company is allowed to do is governed by the terms and conditions and consumer law. In providing a diifferent EETV product on EE Broadband billed by EE to that offered on BT Broadband over the past few years has in my opinion caused confusion and not been to the benefit to existing customers. Hopefully the new senior management will look to have a consistent approach to evolving the product in the next few years.

When the SD channels are eventually closed, I'm sure accounts will be moved across automatically. They haven't closed though - the new packages just include HD as standard, and it's priced accordingly.

If you'd like to have been automatically been moved to the new package, would you also have been willing to have your price be changed to match? Or would you rather have the choice, as you currently have, to stay on whatever price you're currently paying?

Agreed @zulu17 - things have been simplified as a result of these recent changes, and there are more simplifications still to come.

All well and good but the issue is, recontacting 6 months into a 24month deal is pretty daft. Id rather BT/EE offered the best quality and if offering HD as a standard is now part of the package im on, then applying that accordingly like other platforms do shouldn't be an issue, especially if there is no price change, which im told there isn't! Its just bad taste.

Flexing tv does not recontract the package so tbh you'd have nothing to lose by checking options

OK, just to settle this, I've looked at your current subscription @Popeye13_Official - if you switched to the new package, your price would increase by £2 a month*. Alternatively, you can choose to add the HD add-on for £6 a month.

As you're at the beginning of your contract, it makes MORE sense to change package and lock the new price in now, but it's entirely up to you.

Alternatively, you could wait until SD is switched off - I don't know when that will happen, or what will happen to existing subscribers.

* comparing current contract to published rates. I cannot confirm the exact price you'd be offered.

I checked this - flexing to new packages would trigger a recontract.
