I have an existing phone line and want to add broadband to make the house more sellable, but I am likely to move in the next 3 months, will I have to sign up for 24 months and transfer the service to the new owner?. Will there be a penalty.

you cannot transfer your broadband contract to the new owner and new contracts are 24 months if you terminate in 3 months you will incur high cancellation charges

as long as property can get broadband it does not necessarily need to have broadband for new owner and they may be transferring their existing contract when the move

you can enter your address and see what broadband is available at your address

I can't see how adding broadband makes the house more saleable? As long as you can demonstrate via the BT broadband checker that service is available, that should suffice. If you enter a 24 month contract you will either have to pay the balance when you move or transfer it another property. Both of which could cause delays to the new owner obtaining service.

You can't transfer the service to the new owner, they would have to "take over" the line & they may not want to go with BT, especially if they have an existing service they want to bring with them,

Just take a print out/screen shot of the broadband checker showing what services are available & provide that to any interested party.

There are a number of specialist tech features, ie heating, lighting, security etc that need broadband to work, it would be nice to show what can actualy be done.

If you are that desperate to show off your gizmos, just buy a cheap router and tether your mobile to demonstrate them.
