Halo 3, worth the upgrade?

Hello,

My current package is the Fibre 100. Got an option to upgrade to Halo 3 for an extra £1.75 a month.

Seems a no brainer, I guess the only downside is that he restarts my contract with BT which I don't mind really as its been good so far.

It mentions better coverage around the household? Any other perks?

Be careful of which add on benefit you are buying. You only get Complete WiFi if you add it to Halo 3 or get Halo 3+.

So it seems I get a "Tech Expert" but otherwise its exactly the same as what I have at the moment?

Even with the small charge it doesn't seem worth it. I would like this wifi disc for better coverage but you only get that with Halo3+ ?

Hi @NICK90 Or as an add on to Halo 3. In which case the benefit is called Halo 3 with Complete WiFi.

Currently I have Fibre 100, the upgrade is called Fibre 100 Halo 3. The benefits elaborate that I can stream on up to 12 devices but it does not state this in the Fibre 100 so I'm still slightly confused if I'm going to get better coverage with Halo 3.

Complete WiFi is an add-on to your Broadband contract, nothing at all to do with Halo 3. Complete WiFi has worked really well in this large house, well worth having, and Halo 3 worked just fine on the one and only service loss we have experienced.

I had a conversation with a BT Agent and they advised me I have an engineer come once a year to check the line and there is a guarantee I will pay the same as a new customer on my renewal. Both does not bother me at all so even though it is only £1.70 odd a month more I'll just stay with my Fibre 100.

I'm not really clear on just what you have been offered but if the offer gives you both Complete WiFi and Halo 3 for just £1.70 I'd say definitely go for it.

I have Fibre 100 and was offered Fibre 100 Halo 3. It does not come with complete WiFi.

Thanks, that clarifies it. I got a free upgrade to both in July so just hang on awhile, you might get a better offer next month 😉

I have Fibre 100 (GFast) Halo 3. I went for Halo 3 because of the 'free' 4G hub you get if your service fails. I am fed by a long, old overseas drop wire so I thought it was a good idea at the time.

I regret it now. The chief reason that Halo 3 exists is that it generates more regular monthly income for BT. With unlimited 4G on my phone I could manage for a while if my broadband went down and after a stable BT service here and elsewhere for a decade I doubt that a failure is very likely. The snag is that once you 'upgrade' to Halo 3 that becomes your starting point in negotiations for when you change your service. I have tried to get the Halo 3 removed from my account in order to save a bit of £ but they won't let me. I never seem to get to the end of a contract because I upgrade or take advantage of offers before then, so I am sort of locked in to Halo 3. It is a clever business model.

So am paying for a yearly visit from an expert, which I will certainly never use and, effectively, an insurance premium against a very unlikely event which may not be necessary anyway.

I wonder, out of interest, if one didn't have Halo 3 but suffered an outage, whether BT would send a 4G hub anyway, I bet they would.

I’m not sure they would personally, but I suspect (for many on any copper based connection), the one off cost of buying a 4G router off of Amazon and suitable contract free data SIM as a backup, would work out far, far cheaper in the long run, even if it’s a more manual solution.

With the supposed robustness of a FTTH connection being one of its primary benefits, I would really struggle to see the benefits of taking Halo at all in that scenario.

Each to their own, but for most I believe it is additional cost for benefits they will never need.

I bet they wouldn't.

Why would the send you something for free that other customers are paying for!
