TBH there is no longer any real link with ‘line rental’ , LRS is only available to broadband customers and they don’t have a separate LR and broadband charge on their bill , they simply pay a fee for broadband ‘service’ .

The easiest way to consider this (IMHO) is , for your one off payment of £219.84 , you get 12 ‘credits’ of £19.99 , one per month for 12 months , the monetary value of this is £19.99 x 12 = £239.88 .

Basically the question you to ask yourself , is it worth you giving BT £219.84 upfront for just over a £20 ‘saving’ over a year.(£20.04) , the answer is probably yes, because £219.84 left in the bank would ‘earn’ a few penny’s in interest in a bank or building society current account , certainly no where near £20.04.

In practice the way it works , if your monthly ‘bill’ for service is ( for arguments sake ) £36.00 with LRS ( £219.84 ) paid upfront, the amount taken per month would be £16.01 , without LRS its the full £36, the difference between the two methods over the year is £20.04 saving

Am I having a 'bad day' with my brain? I received this email today -

Your Line Rental Saver discount is about to end. So to keep saving for another 12 months, you need to renew it.

It costs £219.84 for 12 months, which gives you a credit of £19.99 each month.

(a) I have just renewed it and that works out at £18.32 per month.

(b) If I look at the new cost it states £23.93 per month without Line Rental Saver.

Question - what credit is being talked about here? Surely I am saving £5.61 per month.

Am I being a bit slow here like my Copper Line?🤔

As you are a broadband customer from previous posts then line rental is included in your package cost and is no longer a separate cost. If you decide to renew the misleadingly called line rental saver for £219.84 then you get a credit on your bill of £19.99 for 12 months basically getting 1 month payment free

The cost £23.93 is only applicable for customers who have a phone only service

Thank you - will need to get my head around this again! So I guess it was correct to pay up front? Do BT offer these misleading 'options' on purpose?

(I have also had two days of trying to compare home insurance quotes. It is a pity I don't drink because I think it would have helped - instead I have to sit in a corner and try and meditate. 🙃)

Thank you - well I have done it now. I realize now my loyalty is not fully appreciated - having it set out like this.

But!!! Before I jump next time I will seek advice/support here on here as to my options . I have been with BT for so many years and easy to just 'go with the flow' rather than look around.

I am very grateful for the feedback from all of you - very much appreciated.
