My contract ends in 36 days and i need to cancel my broadband service as i am been charged £42 a month even though i hear adverts on the radio at £28. I am in charity housing and the price in a cost of greed crisis is just an insult. I am going to move to Plusnet at £25 a month but the message us button never appears for me to chat with anyone.

I will sign up to Plusnet later today for my service to start on the last day of my BT contract (in 36 days) but what do i have to do here to avoid any more obscene charges?

Thank you for any help.

Gary

Good Morning!

thank you for your post today 😊

If Plusnet do a working line takeover on your active existing live with BT your services will automatically be cancelled on the same day as the activation day of a plusnet this is done my an engineer from the cabinet or remotely if your a Full Fibre Customer.

As long as plusnet do a working line takeover then BT will send you comms to inform you that your leaving and will try to keep you as a customer.

All this is automatically but no harm in contact plusnet or BT to confirm this.

Your Advice Of Transfer should appear on BT.com or on the My BT App as well

hope this helps 😊

Thank you so much for the reply. I wouldn't stay with BT as in a cost of greed crisis I feel that BT have taken advantage of the price that I am paying whilst i can hardly afford to buy groceries.

I will sign up to Plusnet later and hopefully everything will be fine bills wise. I cant afford another £42 bill.

One last question, should i start my new service with Plusnet the day my BT contract ends or should it be a day before to avoid moving into the next billing period? I really cant afford more £42 charges.

Thank you again for the replies.

Gary

I hear on the radio every single day many times over a price £15 pounds a month cheaper than what I am paying. I cant stay with BT, its a cost of greed crisis and although the contract as you say will have been agreed to, it is an absolute rip off. I am in charity housing and cant afford my bills and food and every day on the radio, over and over I am reminded that my bank account is getting dipped more than other customers. I don't qualify for any help but thanks for the link.

The only question i need answering at this point is, should my new service start on the last day of contract or the day before the last day of contract to avoid an extra massive £42 bill.

Again, thanks for your help, much love.

Gary

The switch date will have no bearing on monthly bills, bills are still ptoduced for a month in advance in full while services are active then credits on final bills if paid past end date on last bill.

So should i start my new service on the last day of my BT service or start the new service the day before the last day of my BT service to avoid an uncontracted months charge?

I'm thinking its the day before but will that then have an early termination charge applied?

I really am skint and need to avoid extra charges as I look to get onto a fairly priced service. I have no shopping money and an extra charge will mean no shopping money for another month.

If you don't know the answer then hopefully someone else will post up the correct info for me.

Thanks again.

Gary

Short answer is nobody knows, purely depends on end date & when your bills produced, I personally don't think you'll be able to avoid what you're looking for with how it works tbh

have you checked the link for BT home essential and see if you qualify

https://www.bt.com/exp/broadband/home-essentials?s_cid=con_bt_dg-home_awin_aff_vidAJM_110483-Editorial+Content&vendorid=AJM&utm_source=Affwin&utm_medium=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bt.com%2Fexp%2Fbroadband%2Fhome-essentials&utm_campaign=110483&awc=3041_1645094835_8db5e34aa3189a1e2d1144312948112e

as posted you pay monthly in advance so when within a month of contract end date then place order with plusnet - you should not have to contact BT - and plusnet will do the rest

There must be a correct way to do this without picking up extra charges.

Do support staff browse this forum and help with support?

I think if i don't change providers with 30 days remaining I will be told next month that i should have given 30 days notice and that i have another month to pay.

I really cant afford that extra bill. I just want my contract to end on the end date with no hidden extra charges. I need to avoid paying charged that I don't need to pay.

I think im going to sign up today to Plusnet with a start day one day before my contract ends. This way i will have given 30+ days notice and a day to spare of the service ending so that if Plusnet mess up it gives tham a day to get me off this expensive contract without charges rolled over.

I really do have to get it right.

If you know your exact date of the end of your minimum term , tell this to the new provider , you hopefully won’t get any early termination charges, if the change is done on that date, but that’s not guaranteed, it should be on the date or pretty close to it.

You never have pay for two services simultaneously , so the last date for BT is the day the physical change takes place and the next day is the first date for Plusnet , if it’s done slightly early or late a couple of days ETC or a couple of days at the ‘out of contract price ‘ won’t be much more than what is expected to be paid , so don’t worry if the changeover isn’t on that exact date.

What has been pointed out is that you will probably get a bill for the full month from BT , because the bill is produced well in advance of the proposed changeover, but any days that are charged for by BT after you are a Plusnet customer are refunded, this is unavoidable, and happens even if the changeover is done on the exact date you want .

I cant see how the date of the produced bill affects my contract length the bill will just be paid when it arrives. I just want my last day of paying BT to be the last day of contracted service and not suffer early termination fees or have the service rolled onto the next month. I expect to see my contract out and pay the bill that is sent. I do not want to pay for any service after my contact ends, as my contract has ended.

There must be a way to do this without worrying about extra charges.

Different packages have different costs.

fibre 900 with Halo 3 and complete WiFi is the most expensive package and they get cheaper from that, the lowest package being home essential for £15.

they people are correct the bills are ahead and any payments due back will be refunded in the final bill.

BT works hard to support his colleagues and customers, offering packages, services, add-ons etc that appeal to all walks of life.

no matter when your services will stop you’ll still get issues any credits owed, this is reversed into the account they take Direct Debts out of or by cheque

On the radio all day i hear a price of £28.

I hate how companies make it hard to leave in a proper way where bills can be controlled properly by ending a service on the contracted end date and pay only until the contracted end date. Its a right scam to roll bills over into another month. If a million people leave and have to pay an extra bill to what should be paid then BT will make 42 million pounds when it should be easy to leave and pay only the contract length.

Its crackers this conversation trying to get proper answers so that I only pay what I need to pay.

Not all companies charge ahead some companies you are in arrears paying for last month.

bt makes sure your bills are always ahead.

no unlawful activity has taken place, bt is a very fair business, any credits or refunds owed bt pay back with no hassle.

if you pay your full bill and leave the next day you’ll get 99% of it back and the 1% covers 1 day of services

you’ll always get refunded

I've never said that anything unlawful is happening. I'm just trying to leave at the end of my contract only paying for the contract term as I have no money. If it turns out that I have an extra month to pay then that is another month living on porridge. I really like porridge but if I can get off this massive bill then I can buy some honey to go with it.

This is real, I am skint and cant afford another £42 after my contract especially as I will have £25 to pay to Plusnet.

I'm just gonna go for it as getting a proper answer is proving to be impossible, which I imagine is the whole point of the vagueness.

Thanks for your help guys anyway. Much love.

Gary

This is thread going round in circles.

Contact the company that you want to move to and give them the date you want it to start.

They will do everything for you as regards telling BT etc. If for any reason you select a day or two either before or after the end of your contract you will only be charged a daily rate for either the early termination fee or for the out of contract fee. It will only be a few pounds either way.
