Hi,

Earlier tonight, I tried to log on to the MyBT app and found I couldn't. My email address also wasn't working. After investigation with a couple of chat agents, it was discovered that someone had logged in and changed the email address to an account that matched my name and some random numbers @gmail.com, they had also changed my mobile number.

They had ordered a TV package onto my account, but it was still registered to my current address and wasn't due to start until September. My account is now secure, but I don't understand why someone would have done this. They must have changed the email address for the account back in May, as I did not receive May or June's bill to my normal email address that I had originally signed up with.

In placing a new order, they've extended my BT contract date until Dec-2024, but I wanted to shop around for better deals before this, so that's a bit annoying. But I mostly just want to know what the purpose of this scam is, 1) so I know why it was done and 2) in case I need to look out for anything else weird happening with this account or any other, given they had access to some payment details and my address.

Thanks!
