Historic BT Default

Hi I had a BT account, which I cancelled around Sep 2021. I moved back to my wife’s house and we have recently tried for a mortgage and found a default for £232 on my credit file. I have called BT about this to pay it, and I’m told I can’t do it. I will have to contact the credit referencing agency’s or debt collection agency.

i can’t contact the debt collection agency as BT can’t tell me who they sold the debt to, and Equifax will only deal with it to open a query.

I don’t have a query I just want to pay the default, can someone advise how I can pay this?
