My BT package is due to renew shortly. I am planning to buy a house with my partner next year. He also has a package with BT.

It seems BT only offer 24 month packages. If we move to a new house whilst both mid contract do we have to pay any cancellation fees/keep paying the duration left of the contract? Or can we cancel one without charges as we will still be with BT?

If you both have a separate BT services ( at different addresses ) and will reduce to one service between you after you move then you can’t use the home mover service for both , just one ‘service’ can move to the new address , the one moving to the new address can be inside a minimum term it won’t attract ETC .

If your minimum term is due to expire you don’t have to recontract , just allow the contract to become month to month , and then it’s only a 30 day notice once you cancel it , you would have to do the math to be sure , if you move in say 8 months , is the extra cost of paying 8 months at the out of contract price less than taking a 24 month contract ( so paying less per month ) but facing 16 month ETC when you cancel , the chances are the 8 months at a higher monthly rate will financially be the better option.
