BT keep sending me emails trying to get me to move to EE even though I’m mid contract.

I checked out the EE deals they were offering and all of them (including the same speed) are more expensive than I’m currently paying BT. New EE customers get exactly the same deal as BT are offering me.

I’d expect some incentive to move, and not to be charged more for doing it.

It doesn’t make any sense (apart from more profit to BT)

I’m a happy BT broadband customer but sometimes they do things that just defy logic!

Hi,

Sorry you will need to explain what the benefits are as I don't see any. I'm happy with the service I'm getting from BT. I am too being sent emails about moving to EE, but I refuse to do so as the package is more expensive. My contract ends next year and my current contract can't be renewed. I'm guessing this is BT's way to try and force their customers to EE

You can simply stay out of contract, and go onto a rolling month basis with BT, you would not be disconnected. You would just lose any existing discounts, but it may still work out cheaper.

No one is forced to EE from BT , but EE is the preferred brand of BT Group for residential customers , so if your current BT deal is better than the EE one being offered, stay put , eventually when your current BT deal reaches the end of its minimum term ,( and as stated, discounts etc are removed ) chances are there will be better EE deals than the BT one ( especially on an outside minimum term contract ) but ultimately it’s your choice , stay with BT if that’s your preference…..

The BT Group aim is for the BT brand to only be associated with business customers , and EE associated with residential customers , and ‘encouragement’ to voluntarily switch to EE is inevitable.

Sure, no one is forced, but I'm getting those regular emails encouraging me to switch to EE too. And the same service is a touch more expensive. Yup, I'll stick with BT until my contract ends or there's a more enticing offer from EE (Black Friday maybe). But an email every couple of weeks trying to get me, and I assume others, to change but for no benefit to ourselves is not encouraging, it's a little annoying!
At the same time, I don't want to create a rule that automatically moves these emails to the bin - just in case!

If anything, it demonstrates a lack of awareness and marketing skills on the part of BT!

It does seem somewhat bizarre that a year on from the official announcement that EE will become the home of residential services, that BT are still selling broadband to new customers.

I’ve had the same email. There is no incentive or reason to change. The offered full fibre deal is more expensive for no benefit of any interest. In fact the mobile deal is a disincentive - throwing lots of data at me that I don’t need in return for loss of EU roaming which I do need.

Still have 18 months to run on my BT contract. EE have to do a LOT better than this to persuade me to move, because at present I’m just going to migrate elsewhere at the end of the BT contract (seeing they are saying it is not renewable).

I have seen many people saying that they are getting encouraged to switch to EE either mid-contract of nearing the end of their BT contract.

My experience has been different. Approaching the end of my BT contract in September, I logged in to MyBT (via a web browser rather than the app) and saw an offer that looked reasonable - £33.99 for 150MB BT Fibre essential (not Halo). Instead of ordering online, I called 150 and got the same deal, plus Digital Voice for £2.46 (previous contract price). No pressure to switch to EE, plus I got a £9 per month EE mobile deal for 20MB.

Needless to say that I accepted the deal and am happy with it.

I really seems to depend on who you speak to, but in any case it pays to call rather than try to upgrade online.

I did my research first by checking that deals were still available via BT.

@RussKI was annoyed when my unlimited everything phone contract @ £14/m with Vodafone finished and the cost to keep it was almost 3x (it was cheaper to stay off contract on the same plan). Instead I've unlimited everything with a third party on a rolling month @£15/m - so I'd not see £9/m for 20MB to be any kind of good deal! Being on a rolling month, when I come to renew my Broadband I can use that as additional leverage on a combined plan!

What I'm being offered to switch to EE looks quite tempting except that all of the options say 'No home phone service required'. We still need our home phone so it's a no go. Does EE offer a home phone service at all retaining your old number?

"We recommend moving to new EE so that you can get the best experience from us."

I understand that it is BT's policy ultimately to move all residential customers to EE, and retain BT solely for business customers. So I guess it's natural for moderators on this forum to recommend this migration.
However, we've seen too many reports of botched migrations where people have been left paying more for the same or worse service, despite promises made by BT, and in some cases being left for days or weeks without any broadband service.
So my advice is to resist all such calls to move to EE until BT has sorted out its migration processes.

Just read all the comments, the term 'being forced' was probably incorrect and should have said feels like I'm being forced to move is more accurate. I understand its my choice where I switch to. Anyway, it seems everyone is talking about price. This is not the only thing I consider, when choosing broadband deals. Support and service is top of my list, has anyone had any experience once you have switched to EE. Is the service reliable? Are the support team responsive?
