This isn’t true at all , even if salespeople get commission ( something all `ISP employees get ) being out of contract with BT will undoubtedly be more expensive than being within a minimum term with EE , however it’s all a little hysterical anyway , I renewed with BT , I was offered EE but I declined, there was no pressure, no hard sell …..BT want you to move to EE , so the chances are the EE deal will be better to persuade you to voluntarily move , but it isn’t essential or automatic to move …however you may have to call to renew with BT

Couple of months away from renewal & getting comm's from BT about renewing (land mail as well).

When I try to look at the "offers" all I get is a page saying that personal offers are temp unavailable & offering a tel number for me to ring.

How long is the current BT broadband going to be available does anyone know ?

Or is it time to look elsewhere perhaps ?

Just ignore BT and EE, your existing connection will still continue, even after your contract ends. You may lose any discounts, but its still likely to be cheaper than what EE offer. Remember the sales staff are on commission.

I renewed on line a couple of days using the special offer (in fact renew at my current price). There was no mention of moving across to EE, all the paperwork indicates I will remain with BT.

Renewal date is April so no rush, I may even be able to sidestep the March price hike if I do renew at the "right" time.

The yearly price hikes are annoying me now as well as the fact that I had an email a few weeks back offering a BT extension at a bit less than I'm paying now.

I'll give them a ring next week to see what exactly is on offer

The letter I got today says it only takes "3 mouse clicks" to get a deal that will let me "relax for the next 2 years" 😕

My contract was up at the end of September, I didn't renew because I already had plans to move to an alt-net but there was a problem with the underground ducting which delayed the change so I stayed with BT an extra few weeks or so whilst that problem was overcome.

My regular bill during my contracted period was for £74.80, my first out of contract bill was for £82.25 and my final bill was for £88.39.

I now have a synchronous 500/500Mb/s connection and a Wi-Fi 6 router which costs me £25 / month with discounts instead of £74.80 for the 500/73 asynchronous connection that I had with BT.

I'll leave you to draw your own conclusion

I'm on "part fibre" as BT calls it although our estate is only 8 yrs old with below ground copper cabling .

More aggravating still was the petty squabble between the developer & BT about the "extra cost" of running fibre to the properties from a main junction only a few yards from the entrance to the estate.

We are limited to around 75/80mbs which is fast enough for my needs to be fair

BT’s current offer for 500Mb is £34.99 ( yearly increases in March , 24 month term ) which makes the comparison one of the contributors who now uses an Alt Net look like they were not comparing honestly, perhaps the £70 to £80 they were paying was for more than just broadband and wasn’t a typical broadband only price , but you compare to your Alt Net broadband only price ( misleading at best , dishonest at worst ) .admittedly the price is less than £35 , but these Alt Nets would get few customers in the first place without loss leading prices , come back at the end of your term ( if your Alt Net is still trading ) and tell us what they charge at renewal.

Any reason why you continue to post on a forum for BT customers , wouldn’t you be happier spreading your joy at being a customer of an Alt Net somewhere else ?

You actually are already an EE customer. The company you were with, BT Consumer, merged with EE a while ago and the new company is called EE, or New EE if you want to distinguish it from the old EE before the merger. Your Broadband is still branded BT but the money you pay for it goes to New EE. On top of which the BB is not really any different if you switch provider but stay on the same network (Openreach in this case) - its a bit like switching electricity supplier - the actual electricity doesn't change. Or consider the difference between a Vauxhall and Opel, it's just a different badge on the bonnet. That said two of the three routers New EE offer are better than BT's Smart Hub 2.

MY BT contract ran out last September, i was also not intrested in moving to EE, i phoned up to speak to an advsior about renewing my contract, and, as i thought, was told about EE will now take over my account, i stated i was not happy about this and was thinking of leaving, anyway he went off to speak to his manager, came back on the phone and told me i could stay with BT but lose any discounts , otherwise move to EE and get a much better deal, £17 off my broadband (and that included the discounts i was getting from BT).plus all new EE equipment for my home, Hybrid Connect, TV Box, Smart WiFi connectors throughout the house, so i admit i gave in, no problems (touch wood) yet, everything went smoothly in changing over.
