I am paying £61.83pm for 73mb download with Halo3 on FTTC. Full fibre 2 with 74mb download with full fibre is £33.99pm.

Why am I paying more for part fibre (FTTC) broadband than Full Fibre with the same speeds? It is almost twice the price.

There is no difference in price between F1 ( for example ) on FTTP or FTTC , so can you supply links / citation etc to substantiate your claim ?

You could have a FTTC customer on a long line , getting what they consider to be a disappointing speed from FTTC , so if on F1 , as an example, getting 30Mb not 55Mb , and if they were outside a minimum term , they may be paying more than a new customer on F1 on FTTP , but the new customer is obviously starting a minimum term , ( so may be getting better value for that , getting a discount for being a new customer) and as there are no distance related speed reductions ( that’s just physics ) would get 55Mb not 30Mb

That has not got anything at all to do with the delivery medium, copper or fibre , new customers generally get the best deal , but the basic price upto 80Mb (F2 ) is the same regardless of FTTC or FTTP , so you are not paying more on FTTC than you would on FTTP.

Halo3 is a ( comparatively expensive ) add on , to compare a package with Halo to one without Halo isn’t really equivalent, Halo3 isn’t shown anymore as an add on but the main parts can be added separately , it’s still not a precise comparison as Halo has some benefits that can’t be added on the website package builder , but the nearest price for comparison is £52 ish ( and that still hasn’t got some benefits ) admittedly it’s still less than you pay but that’s an inside a minimum term price , half of £62 isn’t £52 ….

I don't understnd what you mean about Halo 3 being an add on. I have been with Halo for at least 3 years. Is it now obsolete? My contract expires in August, what would you recommend as a replacement?

There is no difference in the broadband element of F2 and F2 Halo , the broadband speed , throughput, reliability etc. are the same with both , thats because basically what Openreach provide to the ISP , the difference is what BT add on top of its standard offer , the extra ‘BT’ benefits that come with BT Halo , such as ‘complete WiFi ‘ a guaranteed WiFi signal in every room , ‘unbreakable broadband’ a 4G mobile back up service , home visits to set up equipment , optimisation of your equipment , extra data if you have a BT mobile etc ,possibly a few other things , how much you use these benefits is key to if Halo is ‘worth it’ , some users may think it’s a waste of money, others may think it’s brilliant.

https://www.bt.com/help/broadband/learn-about-broadband/bt-halo/what-is-bt-halo-and-how-can-i-get-it-

I think it’s fair to say some customers ‘regret’ taking a Halo benefit package , for example if your line never has issues that require a ‘mini hub’ to temporarily provide service during an outage , and the standard router WiFi is capable of covering the entire property then Halo may be a pretty pointless addition and expense…..given that you don’t seem to have noticed the benefits with Halo it’s reasonable to assume that removing it at contract renewal should be barely noticeable , apart from the cost saving , anecdotally it seems you have to be insistent with the customer service representatives to renew without Halo once you have it .
