BT has been ripping off my elderley parents.

Is there any way to get anything back from BT? I presume not!

My father died this week, still working at 71 with cancer and very little money - whilst trying to sort his finances it turns out he's been paying BT £200-£300 per month for landline use, based on my mother using the phone to communicate with everyone while he was undergoing treatment especially. At no point were they offered the simple £12 unlimited calls option which could literally have save them £ Thousands! I'm so angry, it's one of many things he was overpaying for but these are ridiculous sums which you'd imagine should have been flagged when he ordered Fibre broadband through them at the start of the year! I've added the unlimited option now but can already see their next bill in a few days is going to be £302!

Just so sad and angry about it all.

So sad for your recent loss.

Sadly unless you're on top of your game isp's will gladly rip you off.

Elderly people trust BT as it's always been there but when it comes to business their just as immoral as they come.

A lesson for all with Elderly persons

Although it’s a sad case (condolences to the OP ) in what way is applying the terms of a contract a ‘rip off’ , a contract that was not forced upon the customer, they made a free choice that presumably was initially the appropriate one (PAYG) , when circumstances that BT were no part of , made into a poor choice , using emotive language like ‘rip off’ doesn’t help , explaining the situation and asking if a goodwill gesture can be made given the circumstances, is the appropriate path to take, it may or not help , screaming ‘rip off’ definitely won’t work

True, but they only bought the fibre option in January - any responsible company advisor would have seen their sky high bills and recommended the unlimited option to save them a ton of money. Yes my dad was gullible and bad with these things, decent companies also try to help.

Thanks for taking the time to highlight your recent experience here, and my sincere condolences for your father's recent passing, too.

I'm glad to hear that you have managed to get in touch to get the unlimited call package sorted out moving forwards, but completely understand it will come as a shock to have seen the amount your parents were being charged.

Did you get a chance to query the charges when speaking with our customer care team?

have you transferred account holder from your father to your mother? or was your mother account holder anyway
