I currently pay nearly £80 pm to BT for just fibre broadband. The fastest I can get is about £30mps download where I live. I have no landline or any other service.

Is this a typical price that others experience and generally do you think its expensive.

I want to complain to Ofcom but first I'm following a bit of proper process.

FTTC or FTTP?

Are you still in contract with BT?

Just for comparison, I’m on 500mbps FTTP paying £33.99 a month, no phone and I’m not with BT.

How long have you been with BT?

It was a full fibre package but only limited to the fastest they could provide around here. There is no FTC available. There are no other services provided ( mobile, tv, landline) i had them all removed. I have been a BT customer for around 40 years - but this time unfortunatley becasue i am i'm a rural loacation i have limited other suppliers

Hi there is no FTTC in ths area and the contract with BT is the usual rolling one which they increase yearly for no additional services.

The fastest downlaod in this rurla area is 30mps ( which i can live with) so i just ensure i don't pay for a faster speed which they can't provide in any case.

I guess i,ve been with BT for over 40 years on one property or another.

sadly limited providers in my area.

They'll charge whatever they can get away with.

I've just been in a similar situation myself because I chose to remain out of contract for 5 years.

Even if you have limited providers, I'd implement a move somewhere else and then see what is available.

£80 per month for a 30Mb/sec service is indeed VERY expensive.
I'm on FTTC and get around 60Mb/sec and pay around £60/month which I consider too high. It's a Halo "deal" which I was persuaded (tricked?) into quite a few years ago when I was offered VDSL FTTC instead of the ADSL that I was previously on.
The price has risen steadily ever since. My contract ends in Jan 2026 and that'll be the time to take a deep breath and see if I can get the HALO useless add-ons removed!

As you’re with BT, you will have other ISP options available. Just looking at some of the fibre only packages available and the speeds you state you’re getting, you shouldn’t be paying much more than £25 a month.

The onus is very much on you to initiate a switch, unless of course you want to spend the time and effort negotiating with BT Retentions, and if you’ve read the accounts of others speaking to the faceless drones in the call centres, it comes with varying degrees of success or failure. Judging by your post, you’re clearly unhappy with your situation, it’s time to do something about it.

If that is the case you will not be getting any discounts that you would get if you were on a "Fixed Term Contract".

Regardless, if you are on a higher priced package that would be of no use to you or not you are still paying far too much based on the information that you have supplied so far.

You need to check on your MyBT and click on "Track my Orders" Then click "View Order Summary" of the last order that is showing. This will show what products you have. Post the information here and this will allow the forum members the chance to advise you how to get a better package and price unless of course you wish to leave BT for another provider.

yes as mentioned that is far too expensive for the speeds you are getting.

Lots of people are coming to the end of their contract and looking at alternatives, myself included.

BT/EE is a very good service and reliability can not be beaten, however they generally are 30% more expensive and of course always bundle on extras that you do not need.

for ref I am on BT fibre 900 and only paying £60 a month, other services are approx 30-40 pounds

I flip flop between BT and PN at the end of each contract if one or the other refuses to give me pricing reflective of what new customers are getting. I’d have stayed with BT myself but they had weeks before my contract ended to offer me a decent renewal price but didn’t. Indeed the only time they wanted to speak to me, was when I initiated OTS.

Generally, I think it’s down to customer apathy when it comes to end of contract on broadband. People just don’t seem to want to be bothered until eventually the stark reality of paying £80 plus a month hits them years after they could have done something about it.
