Because its their game and thus they make the rules.

Just create a Gmail address to use. It is always a wise move to have a secondary email address for contact otherwise its like sawing off the branch you are sitting on if you have a problem with the address.

BT user name

Up till now (many years), my BT user name has been the same as my contact email address. I am now trying to update my contact phone numbers and their update is not being accepted. When I go into 'my profile' and hover over various areas, I am told that my BT username cannot be the same as my contact email address. As my BT username must be an email address, that means that I need to set up another email account. Is there a way round it? I don't want another email address. Why does my user name have to be an email address?
