If you have a telephone landline only you pay for the phone landline so that you can make and receive calls it is included in your unlimited calling plan.

If you have a broadband package ONLY, the cost of the landline used to deliver the broadband only to your property is included in the cost of the broadband only package.

When you have a Broadband and Landline phone package you pay for your broadband AND the phone landline in order to make phone calls although I believe but could be wrong that the landline charge is part of your unlimited call package and will show as a discount when the bill is made.

Next Bill Estimate includes separate line item for Landline Regular Charges

Currently I am on a Broadband Package for

Fibre Halo 3 and Complete Wifi and

Home Phone Unlimited Minutes Calling Plan

which I believe costs £43.99 a month (£131.97 a quarter). That is reflected in my last bill.

There is no separate item for any Landline regular charges, just landline usage.

However online, under 'Your Bills' for the latest bill period, my My next bill estimate shows separate items for

Broadband Package regular charges £131.97

Landline regular charges £49.02

Where does this additional regular charge come from and why is it not part of the broadband package?

Do you pay monthly or quarterly ? what amount do you pay ?
Landline is something if a confusing term if you have broadband , unlike years ago where broadband was an addition to the ‘telephone line’ , it isn’t anymore , ‘line rental’ hasn’t been a separate item on broadband bills for years , broadband being the primary service now , not an add on, so it’s better to think of having an extra ‘telephony’ charge if you choose to take the optional phone service , currently that adds £5 if you pay for calls individually, or £18 if you chose to take the Unlimited Calls plan , obviously these prices are x3 if you pay quarterly…there is no ‘landline’ charge as such , it’s incorporated into the price of your broadband service.

…..you don’t state what type or speed of broadband you have , typically F2 broadband (£27) with complete WiFi (£10) and unlimited (£18) calls is in the area of £55 a month ( £165 a quarter ) but these are negotiable prices , typically the Unlimited Calls can be had for £12 , so what you pay doesn’t seem uncompetitive compared to that .

It seems to me that your bill shows a total £43.99 of which £16.34 is your call plan , ( so your broadband is effectively is £27.65 ) if you pay quarterly these prices are x3 or it may be the case that you have really fast broadband and pay £43.99 for that ( not unreasonable if you were taking a 300/500/900Mb speed , with Halo and complete WiFi ) , in either case your telephony is £16.34 , that’s a discount on the list price of £18 which would mean your monthly fee comes in at around £60.33 or £180.99

Thank you for the reply.

The BB is still over FTTC and I believe the Landline is in the BB bundle, I agree the price seems fair.

What surprises me is that the billing forecast shown online has a separate Landline item. I may have to wait till the next bill run in November to see (if as gg30340 suggests) this is discounted in the actual bill.

As stated the ‘ landline regular charges ‘ are not actually for the ‘landline’ , I don’t know why BT persevere with what is a silly way to show it , it’s the regular call plan charges (Unlimited Minutes in your case ) because that’s an optional service, it’s shown separately.

You could downgrade that to PAYG (or remove telephony completely) and the figure would reduce to £3-£5 for telephony with no included call minutes, or nothing would show on the bill under that heading at all if you removed telephony completely, because you wouldn’t have any regular ‘telephony’ charges with not having a telephone service
