Hello, We are on a Pay as You Go plan (apparently). As far as I can tell we don't pay an extra fee for this. I'm trying to find or switch to a plan that includes a limited number of 'free' minutes. I've looked at the website but I'm just bug-eyed from trying to make sense of it. Too much for my small brain I'm afraid. I also noticed that one plan is '+ land line charge'. Is this still a thing? Advice welcome.

The choice is either PAYG or unlimited minutes. There are no other options available. There is no such thing as 'landline charge' as such, but PAYG adds £3/m to your broadband bill to allow the receipt of incoming calls even if you don't make any outgoing calls.

Most people pay between £2 and £5 but it’s not really for PAYG , it’s for having telephony service (so a phone number allocated, with the capability to make and receive calls including emergency calls ) with your broadband, calls are charged individually, if you make more than 40 mins of calls or more per month , the Unlimited plan will be better value as PAYG is around 30p per minute, after negotiations Unlimited can be £12-£15 .

Those " free" calls have gone matey

All current call packages and payg calls are overpriced

There's literally no demand or competition for land lines

Thanks. There are so many different charges it's hard to work out what's best. One charge was 7.16 a month, ;another was 1..73 p month, etc. I don't know why they're not forced to make it simpler. I don't usually use the landline (hearing problems) I'm trialling a phone that makes it a bit easier to do but I had forgotten how high the price of calls has become!

Thanks. I'm not sure how long I would need any plan for. It may just be for a few months. I'll just make sure I don't speak to anyone who talks as much as I do!
