As far as is Halo a benefit , it may be of no benefit or value to you or me , but it does provide extras over and above standard service , ergo it is undeniably a benefit, some people used to pay Sky an insurance premium on a rented satellite service to cover ‘failure’ that would be fixed as part of the rental , they classed it as a benefit, did it ever add any value ?…

Broadband upgrade offer

Hi all,

Interested in taking advantage of an offer to upgrade my Fibre bb from my current 150mb deal at 29.99 to the 500mb at 33.99 per month. However I can see that the price would go up from March this year to 37.99? Would this increase also apply to those who just upgraded? If so, rather wait for end of March and see if there is a similar offer that won't go up till March next year. Is this the only way of doing it?

Thats why I’m waiting until April when I’m hoping that the offer for 900mb broadband will undoubtedly be the same price as it’s currently being offered to me presently pre price increase. Pointless only getting two months at the great offer price, but it’s your choice.

I am not sure how long this offer has been on, I only got it on my inbox today, so it is weird that I would get just the one month at 33.99. That being the case I will do the same as you, wait for similar offers in April...

This is why you end up with customers paying insane amounts of money monthly for the same product that someone else is getting much cheaper.

It seems that only the lazy or insanely wealthy customers don’t care if they’re paying well over the odds, but, with respect to them, if they’re cash rich enough not to care, that’s their choice. It’s probably because of them that new customers keep getting the best deals, so I shouldn’t criticise them really. In contract deals for existing customers can be very much worthwhile taking, as long as you’re prepared to renegotiate or switch at the end of the contract period.

This must be given at the time of purchase and existing customers must be given notice of the increase.

Ofcom bans mid-contract price rises linked to inflation

Broadband price rises in 2026 explained - can you cancel your contract? - Uswitch

If a person is moving to a new ISP or changing/upgrading their contract they should check to see if they will be due to pay the annual rise if it is happening in a couple of months.

I get that. My point is that I got an upgrade offer today via email for a 33.99 pounds per month if I sign up on a new 24 month contract and the small print states that prices will go up to 37.99 from March. Meaning I would pay 33.99 just in February and would have a price rise a month later. From customer perspective I think this may be misleading, that was the point i was trying to make. I am more than happy to sit down and wait till April for similar offer

Why pay more for something you probably don’t need? Isn’t 150Mbps fast enough? Enough for at least 3 UHD simultaneous UHD streams with room to spare ( assuming guaranteed 100Mbps). Yes, a higher upstream speed may be tempting.. don’t know what you’d get.. Each to their own of course, but personally I’d think carefully about forking out more just to get a fix on fast.com.

Just tried to respond to the original poster and was surprised to get your response which was sort of opposite to what they were being offered. So couldn’t really understand the posting. Of course if you get more - 900 in place of 500 - for less £s then it’s probably a no brainer. But just thought it helpful to consider if the faster speed for more money - in the OPs case- was really necessary.

TBH , no one can predict what may be on offer price wise for 500Mb after the end of March , once the £4 annual increases have been baked into the base price , something to consider is although the 500Mb deal will increase by £4 from £34 to £38 , your 150Mb deal will also go from £30 to £34 the end of March , so in that respect the difference is still coincidentally £4 after March , £34 for 150Mb / £38 for 500Mb , compared to as it is now ( and will be for a month or two ) £30 and £34.
Chances are over the course of a new 24 month period it will make very little difference overall, possibly a few ££ saved or lost depending on if you pull the trigger now or wait until March/April , although you will benefit from the increase speed earlier accepting the offer now rather than wait a month or two

The annual price increases mean virtually nothing. I’d wager that in another 5 years time, ISPs will still be flogging 150mb broadband (as an example), for £28 a month. The only people that will be paying £50, £60, £70 or more a month for broadband, will be the folks with too much money who don’t care less how much they’re paying and genuinely can’t be bothered to help themselves.

Currently on 500mbps FTTP no landline and we have zero issues.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, depending on what is offered to me price wise on 900mbps which is currently CHEAPER than my present 500mbps, I may well end up taking the 900. We’ll see what happens come April 1st.
