broadband price

Hello im paying £36 for full fibre and talk talk and sky do the same for £24 or £25. I accept new costomers get better deals but it's over 30% more does anyone think it's worth trying to haggle a better deal as i'm out of contract. As a pensioner it wouldn't be much hassle to change providers infact i'd probably just need a different router. Has anyone haggled for a better deal on just broadband or am i wasting my time. Thanks

You don’t say what speed this is on FTTP (full fibre ) but I suspect it’s 150Mb (£24 being the TT price) the comparison for a new BT customer is £28 (both go up annually) ..so the BT price is more , but £36 is more than what 900Mb costs with BT for new customers , this is broadband only .
Negotiating can often get near the new customer price, but it’s not just BT that have prices for new customers that’s better than those outside a minimum term , if you were a Sky or TT customer outside a minimum term it’s the same situation

Yes the 150mb . I'm paying £35-98 and £2-28 digital voice = £38-26. Just think £12 a month more is over the top.

I very much doubt you will get BT to drop to SKY price so easiest solution just talk to sky not BT and place order with one touch switch. you may have a problem with your phone number if on DV but you need to discuss with SKY or your new ISP

Worth haggling if you have the time and patience with call centre staff. Remember however, if/when you do call BT, you'll undoubtedly be pushed to migrate to EE. Whether that is something you can stop, I have no idea, but if you are intent on staying with BT, you need to ensure that is what happens. Be aware also, even if you take out a brand new contract now with BT/EE, you'll still be hit with the annual price increase at the end of March.

Be careful also of being talked into a product you don't want or need.

Yeah i don't want to go to EE. I dont expect new costomer price but maybe a fiver off. I only have broadband and i'm home all day so it wouldn't be a big hassle to change to a new provider.

Using One Touch Switching is by far the easiest method of switching provider, but, as has already been mentioned, that can very much depend on whether you have a landline or not and to which ISP you are switching to. You won't be able to use OTS to switch to EE anyhow (as far as I know), but yes, any other ISP that provides DV, then I'm only guessing, it won't be so much of an issue, but you need to check exactly what the crack is with any new provider you might go to.

You probably need your landline, but life is so much easier switching if you can do without.

Bt only just changed me to digital voice so i guess they'd want their router back

If you've only just been switch to DV and they provided you with new equipment, then yes, if you switch to another ISP they will definitely want their equipment back. Make sure you get proof of posting, keep it safe and photo the tracking slip if you switch and send the gear back. There's been far too many stories of people stating they've sent equipment back, not kept proof of posting and then they get hit with charges.

There are quite a few ‘don’t call , just switch’ comments on here , but calling and having a conversation about a better price is always worth a go , no movement on price then switch , it may be the incidentals that may make a difference, like if you use your @btinternet.com email , it may be frustrating using it via a browser rather than an email client .

Yes i'll probably give a call see if they will do anything. I'm not to bothered about email etc just cheapest package to get me on internet and feel i'm paying over the top a little.

If you call ask to be put through to retentions

Front line staff are not decision makers and can't deviate from "computer says no"

@Kodikid He's already been given the direct number for retentions so no reason to be asked to be put through. His D.V. may be a problem if going to Sky or Talk Talk as that is proprioty to BT Group.

I pay £45 a month for speeds of around 30Mb. And they tell me that is a good deal.

Honestly, you literally only have to go to any price comparison website to see what other ISP’s are charging. Make sure though that you are comparing like for like. Also, if you’ve got additional equipment like Halo, you’ll be getting charged for that as well.

If it’s a phone line and ISP TV packages and any other gumpf that you want, then clearly you’re going to pay for it.

So, if you’re out of the 2 year contract, just switch especially if you can do without a phone line. It’s a no brainer. You can chat all you like to BT retentions but I bet at the end of it, you’ll be a new EE customer.

Well if i was sent to EE as a new costomer there cheapest deal 74mbs is all i need at £25-99 so that might be an option.

That sounds great! Just make sure if you call them, that you are clear about want you want.
