Unfortunately, I ended up jumping ship because of the cost. £80 for 1Gbps is crazy and this coming from an ex-employee.

I had been with BT since 1987. Gone though all the incarnations of the internet - Dial-up, ADSL, FTTC, FTTP. The price is ridiculous when compared to the other network providers.

Luckily, there is another network provider providing FTTP from the top of the pole opposite my house.

1Gbps up and down £29.99 for the 1st year with no mid contract price rises. Even after the contract ends the price is still less than half the cost of the BT equivalent.

My contract ended 6 months ago and I had stayed on as been busy and not looked at new deals.

Rang yesterday and went through to thinking of cancelling option. Currently have the 500mb FTTP broadband only option and currently paying £47 a month just for that.

Best they could do still far higher than a new customer. I am annoyed so I asked them to cancel.

Can I rejoin as a new customer using the website or do I have to do under my other half detaills? When should I do this if it possible?

Afraid if you want loyalty then buy a dachshund...I speak from experience

Once you close your existing BT account there's nothing stopping you rejoining yourself

Use the one touch switch it's what it's designed for

Are you paying for any Halo benefits ? , my experience renewing relatively recently with BT was that very close to the new customer price was easily achieved, no threats to leave , no joining another ISP hoping for a last minute offer , and TBH an even cheaper price was available if switching to EE (although no pressure to do so , it was just an option ) , so 500Mb for around £31 -£35 should be your target for just broadband, it’s difficult to know fir sure as apparently taking a deal in March should avoid the £4 April increase , so £47 for broadband only ( no phone service , no extras like whole home WiFi or unbreakable broadband, or any Halo option ) seems very expensive…

I’d try again , however if you do have extras like Halo that take your monthly fee upto £47 then getting rid of them seems difficult, if you genuinely only have standalone BB (500 Mb) and are told it’s £47 no negotiation that is a poor offer with no justification of why it is so uncompetitive, I’d be looking at my other options, but I’d say in the overwhelming number of cases , when pressed on what people posting here actually get , they generally say they don’t have a standard service at all , but compare the basic broadband price for new customers against their renewal price that has various extras like Halo .

I would stop the cancellation and then sign up in your partners name - in 2 years you can repeat thing and sign up in your name then repeat the sequence when each contract expires.

Doing it this way should ensure continuity of service as the change over should complete on the same day as it is using the one touch switch by your partner.

I think you could have problems trying to place an order the day after the cancellation, if done, since you could remain on the BT system as a "customer" until your final bill is settled.

If you don't have a landline and are happy with the smart hub2 why not simply join plusnet?

It's £28 for 500mbps with a £130 gift card on the which broadband site

You'll still be getting BT broadband just billed though plusnet

There have been many cases when a partner wanted to take over an existing line/account in their partners name by changing the name but have been told they have to start a new contract in their own name.

@Gamer98

Yes your partner can place an order and you should be notified of the change giving you the option to stop it if there has been an error with the order being incorrectly placed which in your case it hasn't.
