Because Plusnet are a budget brand , and BT aren’t, think of it like Volkswagen and Skoda , both part of VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group ) and some models are available from both brands, and are near identical apart from the badge , but VW are more expensive than the equivalent Skoda .

@Carlostoll Plusnet has been around a long time. BT still attracts plenty of customers. BT, Plusnet and EE all use incentives to attract new customers to each of the BT Group of ISP's usually in the form of Rewards Cards. Some of us flip contracts every two years to take advantage of the incentives. One Touch Switching has made that far easier for many.

Plusnet crucially, no longer offer landline as part of their packages. Many of us no longer use or even need a landline.

Upshot is, you have no need to concern yourself as to whether or not BT loses customers or otherwise. ISP's are a business and they are all continually vying for new customers.

From a personal perspective, if like me one is on FTTP on a 500mbps package with no landline, it makes absolutely zero difference whatsoever which arm of the BT Group you go with because the service is exactly the same in almost every respect. The only difference is the pricing, which to be honest, is only a couple of quid a month either way.

If you do feel the need to contact any of the Customer Service teams, well BT/EE seemingly operate out of the same call centre in Stevenage, Plusnet are in Sheffield AFAIK. I personally haven’t had to call any of the BT Group call centres at all for any breakdown in service in the last 5 years as nothing goes wrong or has gone wrong with my FTTP service, plus I don’t use any of their router equipment, so no issues there either.

At the end of the day, it’s personal choice as to which of the brand arm you choose, but from experience, there’s literally no difference. For some, it appears brand name does influence their decision, but when it’s ultimately the same company offering a variation on the same packages, I just go for the cheapest offer and incentives.

This might not be relevant but if you are presently a BTBroadband customer and have a BTMail email account it will be "down graded" to a BTMail Basic account which can not be used with an email app or email client if you move to any other ISP other than EE.

If you wanted to retain the ability to use an email client or app you would need to pay £7.50 per month for a BT Premium email account.

If you are a new customer to BT they no longer offer an email service to new customers.
