Have had a good read of the retentions discussion, and am being offered ludicrous prices in comparison to a new customer as has everyone else. I am going to use a switching service and go to another provider for TV and broadband. When i use this service will it cancel both the TV and broadband? Thank you

No.

Using the One Touch Switch (OTS) system will only cancel your broadband.

The TV has a separate contract which you will need to cancel.

As regards your comparison with a new customer, are you comparing like for like which includes everything you are being billed for.

Yes they were offering 33.99 a month vs 50.99 for the broadband, and TV was the same price, so total 53.99 for a new customer vs 79.99 Im getting charged now. Sky is £41 with the same deal plus disney on top

If you are not on a BT Halo package and you have checked that the broadband is exactly the same speed package and the TV package is better than BT's you should try calling BT Retentions 0800.783.1401 and see if they will match it and if not just move.

Yes 100%. You can't have tv without broadband so it stops too. If it's been mentioned before it must be issues with it not cancelling correctly

I'm not sure what the position is with BT TV today, but cancelling your current broadband will cancel the TV as well.

But...I currently have broadband with BT and TV over that broadband connection with Sky, so the two don't necessarily have to be the same provider.

I was thinking of just cancelling broadband and keeping the TV as it meets my needs. I don't need Disney plus but could use it as leverage when I rimg up I guess. I have stuff on my youview box I recorded Id like to keep (have been part of a couple of documentaries would like to keep). Altho I am also reading that the youview box would still work even if not connected to BT as it came through freeview

Yes, I still have one, as it dates from before they started asking for them back. Still works up in my office, for Freeview etc. Not sure if it will still play recordings and I don't use it for that.

One thing I would point out. Those boxes are getting rather old now and hard disks don't last forever. In fact, I had two, originally. One is now dead due to hard drive failure. (I could get a new drive and rebuild it, but can't be bothered, as it's obsolete). If you have stuff you want to keep I suggest you back it up.
