1..Yes , but you would pay early termination charges.
2..See 1.
3..Ask EE , although difficult to see how this in anyway would be in anyway sufficient compensation for the ETC’s you would face .
4..Possibly but would need some manual manipulation by EE , the father/son relationship here is irrelevant, it would be like an unrelated (family wise) EE customer moving into your address , normally they wouldn’t want ‘your’ phone number to retained at that address .
5..If EE are the preferred provider, then BT are passive, in that they would simply respond to an EE request to take over supply to the address , EE would arrange it , BT automatically charging you for your decision to not fulfil your contractual obligation.

TBH , it’s not particularly clear what advantage you see in trying to do this , apart from some benefit from EE for having broadband and mobile together with them, FWIW , I get a discounted EE mobile service with my BT broadband anyway ….if all you want is for your son to pay the broadband invoice, simply change the payment for your BT service to come from his bank account rather than yours , this seems to be a much cheaper and simpler solution unless there is another reason you want to do this.

Moving my BT broadband and landline to EE account in my son’s name, possible without exit fee??

Hi all,

I’m hoping someone can offer some advice on our situation.

I’m currently a BT customer with Full Fibre 500, Halo 3, Complete Wi-Fi and Digital Voice. We upgraded to full fibre in early August 2026, which involved a new fibre installation, and my contract now runs until August 2028.

My son already has an EE account in his name, with three mobile contracts covering himself, me and my wife, all of which he manages and pays for.

We’re now looking at whether he could take out a brand-new EE broadband and home phone package in his own name, linked to his existing EE account, replacing my BT services entirely.

Ideally, he’d choose an equivalent EE Full Fibre package, including whole-home Wi-Fi, rather than simply transferring my existing BT package across on the same terms.

The intention is for my son to take over responsibility for the broadband and landline bills, with my BT account being closed completely once everything has moved over.

One important consideration is our landline. My wife uses it regularly, so retaining our existing telephone number is essential. We currently use Digital Voice with a wireless adapter connected to our BT Smart Hub 2.

What we’re trying to establish is:

Can my son take out a new EE broadband and landline contract in his own name to replace my existing BT services, despite us being at the same address?

Would I face early termination charges, or could this be processed as a BT-to-EE migration without penalties, even though the account holder would change?

Would my son qualify for EE’s new broadband customer offers and EE One benefits, given that he already has three EE mobile contracts but no existing broadband contract?

Could we retain our existing landline number and continue using our Digital Voice setup?

Would we be better contacting BT or EE first, and is there a particular team that handles this type of arrangement?

We’re not looking to leave BT Group altogether. We’re simply hoping to consolidate our household services under my son’s EE account, potentially reduce our monthly bills and transfer responsibility for the broadband and landline to him.

I’d be grateful if anyone has experience of a similar situation, particularly where the BT and EE account holders are different.

Many thanks.

Thanks for the detailed reply, much appreciated.

I appreciate that simply changing the payment details on my BT account would be the easiest option, but the main reason we’re exploring this is that my son already holds three EE mobile contracts in his name, and we’ve noticed that equivalent EE broadband packages appear considerably cheaper than what I’m currently paying BT.

He’s happy to take over the broadband and landline entirely, and we’d ideally like to have everything under his existing EE account to take advantage of any eligible EE One benefits.

One thing I have come across is an earlier BT Community discussion where a BT moderator confirmed that customers moving from BT to EE wouldn’t incur early termination charges, provided the move was processed as a regrade order.

https://community.bt.com/t5/Bills-Packages/Moving-Broadband-from-BT-to-EE/m-p/2343310

I appreciate our situation is slightly different because the new EE account would be in my son’s name.

Would it perhaps be possible to arrange a BT-to-EE regrade first, avoiding the termination charges, and then transfer ownership of the EE broadband and landline to my son afterwards?

Or does the change of account holder make that impossible?

Obviously, we’d also need to make sure our existing landline number was retained.

We’re just trying to establish whether there’s a legitimate way of doing this without incurring substantial exit fees, before speaking to BT or EE directly.

Thanks again for your advice.

The reason the EE is cheaper is because you have Halo and other benefits, the last time I looked EE was actually more expensive than BT on a like for like basis .

I think you are looking at this the wrong way , why would BT agree to this ? , it has zero benefit to them , and EE , assuming you approached them yourself, wouldn’t care of your contractual situation, in fact the ETC bill credit isn’t even available as it would be if you were moving for example Vodafone to EE , as far as others getting a migration to EE arranged by BT , generally that’s at contract renewal and obviously doesn’t change the account holder , you seem to think because it’s a family member this makes a difference to BT , it really doesn’t .

You can not move/transfer an account to another person regardless of the relationship. If you want it in your son's name you will need to cease your account and incur early termination charges and he would need to start a new account/contract in his name.

In regards to a customer moving to EE even as a "regrade" you would only not incur termination charges if you remain the customer until the contract ends or the above would apply and as already explained you can not "transfer" ownership of an account.
