is it possible to backup an individual folder?

More information required. What is the folder, is it computer folder or an email folder etc. Is it to back it up to a computer, BT Cloud or some other system?

Thank you for your reply. What I want to do is take an email folder and back it up to my computer.

You can not do that with the folders in BTMail when using webmail (using a browser) however if you installed an email client such as Bluemail or Thunderbird as an IMAP account, which replicates the folders in your BTMail account you can then use the email client to back up your email folders to your computer.
