New Email System

In the new email system, I cannot enter a group email address from my Contacts LIst. I have to enter the group individually. If I try to select the group in the Contacts list then the group goes into the "To" box. I always use the "BCC" option for my group lists. This fulfills the requirements of GDPR. What can I do to get my group list into "BCC" other than type in each email address individually?

Have a read of this thread and make sure you click on the "BCC" letters and not the address box.

I do click on the BCC box, it only appears when that link is selected. It still will not select the Group list. It results in an invalid email address. I thought that it was because I had spaces in the Group Name so I tried renaming the Group from "A" "B" Group to ABGroup, where A and B are the other two names in my Group Title. It still did not work. With GDPR rules, I have to keep my distribution list private. If I select the Group Name from the Main Contacts List , the contents are placed in the To option, which is useless. I still have to input each email address into the BCC box individually.

Please can this be rectified?

Are you clicking on the Bcc as shown in the following when you want to compose the new email?

No the BCC now appears in the top right hand corner of the screen. I click on that

Yes and when you have clicked on that the Bcc then appears in the new email as I have posted.

Yes it does. However, when I enter the first word of the Group Name and hit the space bar an invalid email address with just the first word in it appears. I have used my 2 group email addresses for 6 years now and this started on Monday. I have a list of complaints about the new email service. Maybe I should join the test team. I am seriously thinking of ditching BT email as it is so bad on both my email addresses.

The problem is not with the BT email system, it is with their hopeless webmail interface.

If you use a proper tool, a mail client, all your problems will disappear.

Did you read the link I posted in message 2?

It explains fully what you have to do. You do not enter anything in the address box. You click on the letters Bcc then a new window/box opens showing all your contacts and group contacts. You then select the one you want and click on "SELECT" at the bottom of the list and as if by magic all your group will be entered into the Bcc address box.

It didn't work when I tried it before. I have just retried it as you have reminded me and it now works. THank you very much.

Is there a new user manual for this email system? I do actually read them. I have not been able to find one.

As far as I am aware it has been working that way since the day it was first introduced but at least you now have it working for you.

There is no manual for the BTMail system other than this less than helpful "Help" page.

I don't know whether "liquorice" is just a BT email user or a BT moderator, or what "Distinguished Sage" means but his/her/their comment that the web interface is "hopeless" and to use a "proper tool" is just incredible. There are thousands and thousands of BT email users with BTINTERNET.COM email addresses and BT (like most large organisations) just doesn't seem to care about their user experience. We are several weeks into the new email web app and they still haven't fixed the fault that is breaking up words at the end of a line, a newly introduced fault. The only thing that seems to have improved is that the annoying pop up adverts when viewing mails have stopped. Thank goodness for small mercies!

Are the alternative mail clients things like GMail, Outlook, Thunderbird?

I'm just a customer the same as everyone else.

What I am advocating is not changing email provider, simply changing the way to deal with email.

A web browser under the control of the mail provider that can be changed at a whim is not the best way to deal with mail.

A dedicated third party program/app designed for the job is far superior.

Try it, you don't have to stick with it or use it exclusively.

Gmail is not a mail client, it is a mail service. Microsoft have confused the issue with calling both their mail service (previously Hotmail) and their mail client Outlook. Thunderbird is a mail client which can be used with any mail service.
