As long as it works, don't worry about it. It not a question of your security, it just a means of verifying that you are who you say you are.

I am trying to find out BtInternet.com DMARC record. BT Postmaster says they won’t answer because their service is only for bulk mails and I need to ask here. I am sending emails via outlook and want to make sure it’s as secure as possible. I have looked through other posts and wondered if this could be it?

v=DMARC1; p=reject; sp=reject; pct=100; fo=1; rua=mailto:dmarcagg@btinternet.com; ruf=mailto:dmarcf@btinternet.com;

thank you

You don't need to know BT's DMARC record if you are sending via BT's servers. You won't be able to access it in any case.

The question arose because my emails to gmail accounts were being blocked from my Namesco domain. They fixed it but said:

I have added a basic DMARC record to your domain that will stop any "No DMARC record found" errors. If you want to make full use of the features of DMARC you can speak with BT who will provide you with their DMARC record which you can pass to us and we can update it for you.

That’s why I’m trying to find out what it is.

Presumably you are sending via your domain name servers and not authenticating using an @btinternet email address to send via BT's servers. In which case the BT DMARC record is irrelevant. Either way, I very much doubt BT will supply the DMARC details.

I am authenticating with btinternet email address, so yes, via BT. All other emails have always gone through fine, it was just gmail.

Do you not have access to your domain provider's SMTP server rather than use the BT server?

Hmm, I've got a test account with my domain provider that I send via BT's SMTP servers and not getting a bounce from emails sent to Gmail from that.

Really appreciate your help with this because I haven’t got a clue. If I send directly from my domain email address it’s fine. It’s because I want to use outlook on my phone and that’s going through BT.

Just configure Outlook on your phone to use your domain server for that account rather than the BT server. Must admit Outlook is not a particularly good mail app Blue Mail is far superior.

To use their SMTP they charge you. They have made it work with BT now but it bothered me that they said ‘Basic’ DMARC. I thought maybe I needed to add something better.

I use Ionos (1and1), they only charge £6/m for domain, webspace and multiple email addresses with access to their SMTP server.
