Can no longer log in to Talk21.com

Since this weekend I can no longer log in to my talk21.com e mail via any web browser or the Outlook 365 client that has worked perfectly for years. This applies to every computer and mobile phone that I have tried. Clearing cookies makes no difference either.

If I try to login from bt.com/mail, after a few seconds I get bounced back to the login page and told to try again. If I try to login using the Outlook client the same thing happens; after a few seconds 'connecting' I get bounced back to a username and password screen.

Thinking my account had been compromised, I successfully changed the password but I still cannot login. The same problem happens.

What is happening, please, and how can I resolve?

Problem solved.

I post the solution here for anyone else with the same issue.

Prompted by this post https://community.bt.com/t5/Email/Talk21/td-p/2311444, I went to bt.com/mail and tried logging in with user.name.t21@btinternet.com instead of user.name@talk21.com. Log in again failed, but this time I was directed to logging in from the bt.com homepage. When I did, I was asked to set up two factor authentication. This is now done, and I once again have access to my email account.

It's a shame I wasn't served a helpful message in the first place but at least I can now login again - and my Microsoft 365 Outlook client works, too.

Just for completeness: Having now got access to my account again, I find a BT email from Saturday telling me that the account had been locked due to suspicious activity - but in the absence of any backup email address or phone number this had been sent to the very account that had been locked. It was therefore as helpful as a chocolate teapot.

The moral of this story is make sure you have a recovery email address (in my case now done along with recovery mobile phone number as part of setting up two factor authentication), and ideally set up two factor authentication too to reduce the likelihood of an account being locked.

Had you carried out a search of the forum prior to posting you would have found this post which mentions using the correct format for your email address.

I have done all that you suggested and yes it works for a few days and reverted back to bmx.2..2 I clear my cache/browser history and it works for a day or so and then back to login problems. I also if I get online have problems with composing mail, the cursor reverts back to the beginning and I have to start again, I now compose in word and cut and paste to my email. When I complain I get the HORIZON POST OFFICE REPLY 'It only happens to me'

What has Horizon Post Office got to do with this. Has somebody gone to jail,lost their home,lost their job or had to move out of their community!

When you clear your history and cookie you should be given the option to accept them again when you next log on. Do not accept them and see if that helps.

I've got exactly the same issue. Managed to get in after downloading the BT app but now it no longer lets me in although the credentials are correct.

Reset the password still doesn't work.

Ask for a pin never get one.

I've tried the @talk21.com address tells me it's incorrect

I try the x.t21@btinternet.com still incorrect

Tried from mobiles laptop and even incognito mode in the browser all come back with the same message

How do I get in to my account that I've had for more than 20 years ?

Good morning @Kilcloon5, welcome to the BT Community.

Have you tried logging in through BT Webmail to see if you're able to use these credentials, or is it giving the same errors?

Also have you had a chance to reach out to our Email Team about this yet?

Hi Peter...

Seems like a recurring theme here.

Had access to my talk21 emails via my iphone for years, but on Friday it stopped working.

Have phoned the email team today, but they cant seem to locate by talk21.com email address on their system. How can this be?

Are you a BT broadband customer? If not, your email will have been downgraded to Basic Mail only accessible via webmail.

Are logging in using the correct format as posted in message 2 of the thread?

No- I’m not a BT internet customer.

I have tried logging in online using the ‘.t21@btinternet.com’ but it says incorrect password.

It does say ‘We found a BT ID and a BT email account’ for my original talk21.com email though when I go to password reset.

However, Unfortunately my password reset answers now appear to be wrong/ are way out of date so I can’t gain access.

i haven’t logged in manually for years, always done it on my phone through the iPhone mail app.

The details @licquorice has mentioned about only being able to access basic email accounts via Webmail are correct, but we definitely want to make sure you're still able to get logged in to take a look.
