Emails deleted from server

For reasons too complicated to go into, I've had to use a new BT email address. I've added it to my phone but it appears that BT no longer supports POP3.

This means that if I delete from my phone, I lose the emails everywhere - including Outlook.

On my old BT email - which is POP3 - I can delete emails from my phone without losing them everywhere else. That is my ideal.

I can't find a setting on Outlook to keep emails on server.

So, am I just doomed to have to remember not to delete emails from my phone? Or does anybody know a workaround?

Thanks.

BT does support POP3, I use it.

It is perhaps your device that doesn't give you the option.

Hi

Thanks - I use POP3 on the old account, but when I try to set up the new account I just get:

Couldn't verify account

pop3.btinternet.com isn't responding. You can continue the setup process, but you won't be able to send or receive emails until your account has been verified.

And I'm stuck there. Maybe it's a call to BT after all. 👍

You can't switch from IMAP to POP3 on the fly. The account has to be deleted and recreated.

That's what I thought - thanks for confirming.

I'm just not sure whether I trust deleting and recreating not to lose lots of stuff.

Just log onto your email account using a browser. If the emails are there then they will be downloaded when you set up the POP3 account. Just make sure that you have the "keep on server" box ticked when you set it up.

If you are not prepared to do that there is is nothing further that the forum can do for you and I fail to see the point of you posting.

It was a comic reply!

I've actually got another old BT email so I deleted that and re-added it - but POP3 wasn't offered, it set up as IMAP as the only option.

So, I think a call to check with BT whether POP3 is no longer possible might be the best bet - at least I'll know one way or the other. 👍

I totally understood it.

And, as I said, I had one account where POP3 was working and a new one where it didn't. So, there did seem the possibility - as somebody has suggested IRL - that BT wasn't supporting POP3 for new accounts but if you already had it, it stayed. (Yes, that sounds pointless but tech does some pretty weird things.)

Thanks All - it's now sorted. A chat with BT found the issue (auto-population!) but I've now got what I want/need so can rest easy - and know that emails may be in two places at once. 😁

Thanks again for your help.
