Hi all (bit long - sorry!).

As have many, I am having problems getting Outlook to try to connect to BT mail. I have read a lot of the articles here, and tried to use that, but still having problems.

1) I have a new PC, and am installing a fresh installation of MS Office Professional, including Outlook. I have outlook on my old computer, and that is working fine. I am running Win 11

2) I have verified my password by checking on my Phone, old PC and BT Mail online via the web

3) I have checked and I have a "Standard" email package according to My BT

4) When providing my email address as part of the "create new account", I get prompted for a password which I enter. After the "We are setting things up for you message", I then get the following message:-

I then try to connect (using the advanced options) having turned OFF the encryption (set encryption to "none" in the advanced options). I then get:-

I have tried all the encryptions setting, including both "Auto" and "none" without success.

The default values I am using are as below:-

Anyone any suggestions? This is driving me spare!!!

Thank you

Ahh - my bad - apologies, I took the screen shot after going through a round of "try every button to see if that solves it" (as you can guess, it did not)

As you can see below, even when not ticked, it still fails 😞

Thank you

You are best to set the account up manually and remember when setting it up to click on the "more settings" and tick the box for the outgoing server "requires authentication" and select "use the same as Incoming server.

I don't use Outlook, I prefer Thunderbird email client, but I do have Outlook 2010 on my computer so set up an email account on that. It may be different depending on which Outlook you are using but there must be a setting some where in order to put the password in for both servers. I did use a genuine email address which is not Joe Bloggs and it worked.

I had something like this and the solution was to put in a wrong password which then enabled a fresh start- that was from advice here. But perhaps things have changed - that was a couple of years ago.

Thanks all - totally appreciate the help.

I got frustrated with Outlook, so I thought I would try Thunderbird (as one of the people above uses that).

When it put the details in, it confirms that yes, the configuration is correct:-

I then try to run it, and I get:-

So.... it does look as if the issue is at the server end. I have tried the user name and password on the BT web client, and it works fine - I can see my emails etc. Whatever is blocking Outlook looks to be ALSO blocking Thunderbird, so I am stumped 😞

As I said -I appreciate the help, but I guess I am missing something somewhere.... I KNOW that it will all burst into life if click a specific button, set a specific value SOMEWHERE... but where???!!! 🙂

Thanks again!

Paul

You can try forcing a change of IP address which might then result in you connecting to a different server in the farm. Disconnect your hub from line for about half an hour to trigger the change of IP address.

Hi all - found the problem.

I have (had!!) Norton 360 running. Turning it off seemed to do nothing, so I completely uninstalled it - suddenly my email flashed into life!

As such, issue was on my side, I can only think that Norton really did not like the port being used, or perhaps the connection through to IMAP?
