Email receiving suddenly stopped.

About 6 or 7 hours ago I suddenly stopped receiving emails, even those that I asked sender's to re-send. I was very puzzled and worried. Then, towards the end of that time, a new email heading appeared, purporting to come from Microsoft. When I opened the email, the message said 'Make a purchase before..(a date)..and keep your tenant". The word "tenant" had appeared in an exchange of normal emails earlier the same day.

I am afraid my email account appears to have been hacked. Whatare the dangers and what should I do?
